Job Overview


We are looking for a committed individual to join our team as a Session Practitioner supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs and /or SEND including SEMH. The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting the wellbeing of children/young people through animal-assisted and nature-based therapeutic intervention. We are particularly seeking applicants with experience in supporting children or young people with complex needs. The applicant will be able to respond flexibly and sensitively to a range of needs in order to ensure each child and young person feels safe, included, and empowered at Corey's Farm. As a Session Practitioner, you will plan and and facilitate safe and engaging activities that build a connection with nature and animals.

Duties



Plan and deliver engaging wellbeing sessions tailored to the interests, targets and needs of the child/young person Foster positive relationships with children/young people, to help develop a sense of safety and trust, helping them build confidence in themselves and others Build positive relationships with and engage in visits from parents/carers and other professionals working with the child/young person Maintain a dedication to safeguarding by remaining vigilant, putting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people at the centre of all practice, and consistently following safeguarding policies and procedures Monitor and record children's/young people's progress and achievements through written observations and reviews Collaborate and communicate with Management, other Session Practitioners and Animal Care staff to create a cohesive and safe environment for children/young people to thrive Maintain a safe, clean, and organised environment, adhering to health and safety regulations at all times Actively participate in regular training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to the role Foster an inclusive, diverse, and respectful environment for all individuals by actively promoting equality and valuing the unique backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities of every person. Ensure that everyone is treated with dignity and fairness, free from discrimination or bias and commit to creating a culture where diversity is celebrated, barriers to inclusion are identified and addressed, and each individual feels valued and heard

Essential Criteria:



Proven experience supporting children/young people with SEND. Particularly, experience in supporting children/young people with complex needs - although this is not essential. Knowledge of or training in specific SEND-related approaches and/or alternative communication methods (e.g. Makaton, PECS, sensory integration, Zones of Regulation, etc.) Demonstrated commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, with an understanding of child protection procedures (training will be provided) Enjoyment for working outdoors in all weather conditions in order to lead animal-assisted and nature-based activities At ease with, an interest in and an appreciation of a wide range of animals Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also being able to take independent initiative when required Ability to work flexibly and respond calmly to challenging or changing situations Willingness to support an individual child/young person as part of a team providing either group, 1:1, 2:1 or 3:1 support Ability to maintain professional boundaries and follow policies and procedures, both on and off site Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one prior to starting the role)

Desirable Criteria:



Experience working with children/young people with complex needs Previous experience in animal care and/or working in nature-based or farm environments Experience in working with children or young people who present with demand-avoidant profiles, with a PDA-informed approach that prioritises low-demand strategies and language
This position is term time only, with a working day being 9am-3pm (6 hours). We welcome applications from those looking for either full time or part time positions.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: 12.60 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 6 per week
