Job Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced industry professional to take on a consultancy-style teaching role within our Hire Controller (Plant, Tool and Equipment) apprenticeship programme at Level 2. This sessional position - around 8 hours per month - is ideal for someone who wishes to contribute their expertise in a flexible, supportive teaching environment.

Specialist Consultant Instructor

to join our dedicated team in a part-time, sessional capacity. This is an

online role

with full support provided - you will not be expected to deliver independently or manage the programme alone.





Rather than a traditional teaching post, this opportunity is best suited to someone with

current or recent industry experience

who is confident in supporting and enriching learner understanding through structured, online input. You will work closely with our curriculum team to complement delivery, share industry insights, and enhance the quality of learning.




Key Responsibilities:






Provide expert-led, online input in alignment with the Hire Controller apprenticeship standards. Collaborate with the programme team to support the delivery of engaging and relevant sessions. Contribute real-world perspectives on topics such as customer service, hire administration, logistics, equipment maintenance, and health & safety. Support the design and review of session materials and assessments from a practical, industry-informed viewpoint. Offer constructive feedback and guidance to apprentices, helping them to contextualise their learning. Maintain awareness of industry trends and operational best practices relevant to the hire and rental sector. Ensure that input and materials align with regulatory and quality assurance standards.



Qualifications & Skills:






Significant experience in the hire industry, specifically in plant, tools, or equipment hire (essential). Teaching or training experience is highly desirable, though not essential. We are willing to provide training to the right candidate. Strong understanding of the Hire Controller apprenticeship standard and its associated competencies. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deliver content clearly and interact effectively with learners. Ability to create and deliver online learning materials (experience with virtual learning environments is a plus). Familiarity with health and safety regulations and industry standards related to hire equipment including working knowledge of PUWER, COSHH and PAT.




You will be a role model for college students and will work to professional standards.
