The Better Days Project is a new initiative for Bridgend, funded by the Big Lottery for a 3-year project, developing a unique and inspiring opportunity to address and reduce poor mental health among young people in the community.
This position is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund until January 2028.
This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking team dedicated to creating positive change through the exciting model of social prescribing.
As part of The Better Days Team, you will support in delivering a unique and inspiring opportunity to address and reduce poor mental health among young people within the community.
We are looking for passionate, reliable, and engaging Sessional Youth Workers to support the delivery of dynamic, creative, and safe activities that empower young people. Working alongside the Physical and Emotional Wellbeing Coordinator and the Woodlands and Biodiversity Coordinator, you will help facilitate high-quality sessions that inspire confidence, build resilience, promote healthy living, and create a sense of belonging - combining outdoor engagement, physical activity, animal care, and emotional support to improve youth wellbeing.
Qualifications and Skills:
Essential
Minimum 1 year of experience working with young people in a youth work, sport, or wellbeing setting.
Qualification in your relevant field of work [youth or sports]
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport and motivate young people
Confidence in delivering physical or outdoor activities with groups of varying abilities.
Understanding of safeguarding, inclusion, and working with vulnerable young people.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
Support to deliver a range of physical, emotional wellbeing, and nature-based sessions in line with project goals.
Support to engage young people in meaningful activities such as sports, mindfulness, conservation work, and animal care.
Support delivery of structured physical activity programmes, including team games, fitness, outdoor adventure, and Green Gym-style sessions.
Assist in creating inclusive, supportive, and safe environments where young people feel valued.
Promote emotional wellbeing and positive peer interactions through reflective conversations and guided group work.
Help facilitate residentials and evening / weekend sessions, as well as family sessions when required.
Contribute to recording and monitoring of young people's progress using agreed monitoring paperwork and systems
Support safeguarding and risk management in all aspects of delivery.
Participate in team planning meetings, training, and evaluation activities.
