Description





The Settlements Payments Analyst plays a critical role within the Commodity Settlements team, part of the Finance function. This position is responsible for the accurate and timely execution of all payments made by PetroIneos Trading & Refining (PITL) and PetroChina International (London) Ltd (PCIL), encompassing both commodity trading-related costs and general accounts payable.

A strong understanding of the end-to-end payments process in SAP is essential, along with familiarity with commodity trading costs, accounting terminology, and best practices. The role involves regular interaction with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, requiring excellent interpersonal and teamworking skills. In addition, strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities are vital to succeed in this role.

Key Responsibilities





Manage and take full ownership of the end-to-end payments lifecycle for PetroIneos Trading & Refining (PITL) and PetroChina International (London) Ltd (PCIL), ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution. Execute and oversee all payments related to commodity trading activities, including freight, inspection, storage, demurrage, and associated operational costs. Maintain in-depth knowledge of SAP payment processes, ensuring all transactions align with internal controls and established best practices. Ensure accurate cash allocation for accounts receivable across various company codes in SAP, investigating and resolving issues in coordination with the relevant Settlements Analyst. Perform daily reconciliations between SAP and bank reports, identifying discrepancies and resolving issues such as returned funds within defined timescales. Monitor and update payment status across various internal systems, ensuring end-to-end process integrity and visibility. Prepare and deliver monthly payment reconciliation reports and other analytical reports to support financial oversight and decision-making. Circulate accounts receivable/payable (AR/AP) outstanding reports and support follow-up on overdue debtor balances. Undertake additional tasks and projects as assigned by the Manager.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise





Minimum: A level or Accounting vocational qualification Degree in Finance/Banking/Commercial or equivalent preferred Proven experience in managing high-volume payment processes, ideally within a commodities or trading environment. Excellent working knowledge of SAP and its payment functionalities. Strong grasp of accounting terminology, accounts payable, and financial controls. High attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; a strong team player with the ability to build relationships across departments. Able to work under pressure, prioritise tasks effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
