The Post

Shared Lives is an alternative to traditional types of care and support available to adults with a learning disability. In Shared Lives, a person lives, or stays with a Shared Lives carer within the local community. The Shared Lives carer provides the care and support in their own family home and as part of their own family and community network. The person would become part of the carer's extended family and be supported by the Shared Lives carer to live the life they choose.



Hackney Shared Lives supports people who rely on the help and support of others to maximise their potential and maintain their sense of independence.



Hackney shared lives scheme is a CQC (Care Quality Commission) registered service offering the opportunity for vulnerable adults to live in the community. The adult is "matched" with a carer who is recruited, assessed, trained and supported by scheme officers.


The role of the registered manager is to support this process and ensure the compliance of the scheme within the remit of CQC. Each placement is different and this brings challenges and rewards.The registered manager is responsive to CQC, Shared Lives plus (who offer oversight of all 150 schemes nationally) and also works alongside the multidisciplinary Mental Health and Learning Disabilities teams who refer to the service.



Shared Lives Carers are self employed and supported to ensure their fees are competitive and vacancies are advertised. The team has enjoyed a period of stability, including the restructure of the scheme financially and procedurally. The scheme is ready to grow and increase the offer of community living to vulnerable people in Hackney.

The Person

Whilst we value experience, you will need to be committed to providing quality service and opportunities to the people living within Shared Lives. You will need to demonstrate your understanding of supporting people on the Autism Spectrum and Learning Disabilities. You will need to evidence leadership qualities, flexibility, enthusiasm, initiative, and resilience, for what is often a very demanding but rewarding vocation.



Your role will include being a CQC registered manager for the Shared Lives Service, supervising the scheme officers, supporting carers and vulnerable people, organising relevant training, providing reports to various stakeholders and being prepared for the possibility of a CQC inspection. The registered manager takes the lead role for the scheme in matters of safeguarding. The service is always aiming to be "outstanding" with CQC and take an innovative approach to social care and quality assurance improvements - which is a key role of the registered manager. Hackney is a culturally diverse borough and the scheme works to support and recruit potential carers from all parts of the community - building relationships with the community groups is essential. The scheme has a high number of out of borough placements for which the registered manager will need to have oversight and work with regional commissioners.

Experience

- Ability to lead, manage and develop a diverse service



- Management experience in social care and ability to develop and maintain services

Qualifications

- QCF Level 5 diploma in leadership in Health and Social Care or equivalent or above qualification
