is a family-run waste management company based in Manchester, United Kingdom. Established in 2006, we specialise in providing environmentally friendly waste solutions for trade, leisure, and commercial clients.
Our services include zero-to-landfill solutions, recycling, and a state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility. We actively work to reduce waste and promote sustainability.
We are looking for an experienced SHEQ professional that can lead, develop and manage all aspects of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) across the Company's waste and recycling operations, including HGV fleet operations for waste collection, a Materials Recycling Facility (MRF), and act as point of contact for stakeholders during construction of an adjoining expanded MRF under CDM regulations.
The SHEQ Manager will oversee compliance, through audit and action planning, for all relevant legislation throughout the organisation of approximately 130 employees across two offices, two HGV depots and the MRF(s). They will drive a culture of continuous improvement and be able to support the Senior Management Team in identifying priorities and decision-making on SHEQ.
Develop, maintain and enforce SHEQ policies, accreditations (e.g. Safe Contractors, ConstructionLine and PAS402), and procedures to meet legal and regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant ISO Standards (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001), and certifications for waste management, including waste permits, and the provision and effective use of PPE and equipment.
Take responsibility for ensuring that all staff training, compliance and certification requirements are in place and up to date throughout the business, managed by their respective departments.
Ensure Fire Risk Assessments, LOLERS (not trucks), PSSR Inspections, PAT Testing, Boiler Inspections and all other PPMs are carried out across the sites, and that corrective actions are evaluated and actioned.
Support the MRF Management Team with day-to-day safety assurance, including Control of Contractors, Permit Management, and Safety Investigations, manage supply chain documentation and compliance vetting, and management and monitoring of Environmental performance (especially noise, dust, and water courses). In the case of complaints, ensure effective communications with the complainant.
Act as stakeholder point of contact for construction and maintenance activities under CDM regulations, review and monitor risk assessments and training certificates where applicable (e.g. working at height).
Attend customer sites as required to audit compliance with safety standards for our Drivers, Customers and Members of the Public.
Support the Finance Director to build a positive case for insurance renewals with the aim of demonstrating reduced risk year on year.
Take responsibility for the use and accuracy of data on the IMS system (Activ) and report on trends through Monthly Management Reports and Quarterly Board Reports.
Ensure Waste Carriers Licence and Destination Sites are properly permitted and that permits are held on file.
Define and lead the business to deliver reduced risk by establishing, monitoring and completing Action Plans to improve safety and promote the Principles of Prevention across the organisation, in particular the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) and Transport Operations.
Take responsibility for effective investigations into incidents and near misses, the accurate recording of these including RIDDOR, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions, and developing our Risk Assessments, SOPS and training / tool box talks to reduce risk across the organisation.
