Shift Pattern 4 On, 4 Off (2 Day sand 2 Nights 06:00 - 18:00)
Job purpose:
To contribute to the efficient operation of the Quality Laboratory by the accurate and timely analysis of samples, by collating and interpreting associated data, and initiating corrective action where appropriate. To carry out process and product development work, to assist in customer support activities under direction, and to assist the Laboratory Manager as required.
Key Accountabilities:
? Adherence to all Laboratory Safety and Hygiene Policies
? Knowledge of Quality systems, testing methods and equipment operation
? Analysis of samples
? Recording of analytical data
? Passing/failing products on the basis of predetermined analytical values
? Labelling of samples for shipment to customers
? Storing samples
? Maintaining reagent stocks
? Calibration and Standardisation
? Upkeep of laboratory reputation and image
? Development of analytical test methods
? Development of operating procedures
? Carrying out analytical projects, producing suitable reports on completion
? Training of recruits
? Other specific duties, as designated by the Chief Chemist
SAMPLE ANALYSIS
? Acceptance of samples into the laboratory, verification of Lab logbook entry, complete identification and security.
? Timely analysis of samples in accordance with product specifications and designated methods.
? The recording in full of analytical measurements in personal workbook or designated worksheets, along with signature and date.
? The immediate reporting of analytical results to the appropriate production department once full testing is completed and or when a test result falls outside the specified limits.
? Any anomalous test results, or instrument behaviour, must be brought to the attention of the Laboratory Supervisor as soon as is practical.
? The entry of all analytical results on the laboratory central computer.
? The preparation of process samples test reports.
? The preparation of delivery samples, with correct labelling and Certificate of Analysis, and their distribution.
? The storage of product samples in their designated location for the correct period.
? The correct and safe disposal of out-of-life samples and waste reagents.
CALIBRATION & STANDARDISATION
? Regular routine calibration of instruments and equipment, in accordance with the prescribed techniques and frequency.
? Recording of calibration results and reporting any anomalies so that the Laboratory Supervisor is aware of them.
? Regular routine standardisation of reagents in accordance with the prescribed techniques and frequency.
? Recording of standardisation results and reporting any anomalies so that the Laboratory Supervisor is aware of them.
HOUSEKEEPING & SAFETY
? Give close attention to appropriate chemical hygiene, laboratory cleanliness, and housekeeping. Through systematic handling of samples, reagents, solvents and equipment, ensure that work areas are clean and free of clutter.
? Through an in-depth knowledge of product and reagent safety information ensure adequate protection for yourself, others and the work place environment.
? At all times when performing experiments, use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
? Perform safe usage of all chemicals, electrical equipment, and glassware.
? Perform safe usage of supply gases, and safe handling/changing of gas cylinders.
? Be familiar with emergency procedures, and the location and usage of all emergency equipment.
? Bring any concerns regarding health, safety, or environmental situations to the attention of line management (Laboratory Supervisor or Chief Chemist), or to the HS&E Manager.
? Assist in carrying out Risk Assessments when requested.
PROCEDURE & METHOD DEVELOPMENT
? Through reference research and experimentation devise methods to analyse specific properties of given products.
? Generate Standard Operating Procedures, reflecting precisely the working practices carried out in the lab.
? By the application of standard statistical methods, evaluate the accuracy, reliability and reproducibility of analytical methods.
? Carry out detailed Analytical Projects, as requested by the Laboratory Supervisor or Chief Chemist, to gain an improved understanding of process behaviour. Write suitable progress reports to provide information to laboratory management and production personnel when appropriate. On completion of project ensure correct documentation for future reference, and issue Technical Report, if appropriate.
EQUIPMENT & STOCK MAINTENANCE
? Maintain reagent stock levels to ensure uninterrupted laboratory operation by carrying out regular checking and noting when consumable item are near exhaustion in their storage areas.
? Through the diligent use of manuals, develop a basic knowledge of the principles and operation of analytical instruments, to enable correct routine operation, maintenance, and repairs.
? Carry out routine checks on the levels of consumable items for equipment.
? Note any consumable items needed on the purchase list.
? Replace gas cylinders when they approach empty, after isolating equipment as necessary.
TRAINING
? Assist the Laboratory Supervisor in training new recruits to the laboratory.
? Guide new recruits in the operational procedures and analytical methods of the Laboratory.
? Instruct new recruits in the safe operation and handling of equipment and chemicals.
? Train all relevant staff on the application of newly developed methods.
GENERAL
? Carry out other duties as directed by the Laboratory Supervisor.
? Comply with policy and procedures of Industrial Chemicals Limited.
? To participate in all Company training programmes as required.
? Through personal presentation and interaction with others, maintain the positive and helpful image of the laboratory.

As this is a 24/7 site you are required to work on a 4 On, 4 Off shift pattern which will include shifts covering nights and weekends and bank holidays
