The successful candidate will be an essential part of the team focused on the growth and success of this high-profile not-for-profit organisation. This role will be instrumental in supporting the operational function of our Global Centre of Excellence in St Helens and will be integral in the support of the diverse project work which we undertake. Working closely with and reporting to the Operations Shift Team Leader & Engineering team this role will have a variety of internal stakeholders and will be responsible for ensuring an excellent delivery of service to the wider Glass Futures team.
The successful candidate has the unrivalled opportunity to collaborate with leading experts from the glass and digital technologies sectors. Due to the nature of the business and St Helens project, a strong background in a similar industry is highly advantageous for this role, however we are also open to hearing from exceptional experienced candidates with a wide scope of experience, demonstrable transferable skills, and core values to become an essential part of our team.
Core Responsibilities:
Responsible for the safe operation of glass manufacturing equipment/furnace and the safety and wellbeing of all staff
Performing routine equipment maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and making on-site repairs when needed
Installing and maintaining industrial equipment such as machinery and systems
Developing and implementing maintenance schedules, identifying and ordering necessary parts, and ensuring that all equipment meets regulatory standards
Performing regular inspections, making any necessary repairs, and adapting or replacing outdated technology or machines with newer, better models
Installing and upgrading system components to improve system optimization and perform diagnostic systems to locate any adjustments
Carry out machine/control/operational adjustments in line with SOP's/SSOW
Promote and lead the way in an exemplary safety culture within the St. Helens site.
Ensure all relevant process documentation and records are completed and signed off
Competent in completing and working to risk assessments and completing method statements/SSOW & SOP's
Be proficient at investigating production related issues, identifying root cause and responding to the situations appropriately and safely
Person Specification:
Minimum of working 2 years within a glass/process plant or manufacturing environment
Minimum HNC Electrical
Have served a recognised apprenticeship and minimum NVQ3
Be competent in completing and working to risk assessments and completing method statements/safe systems of work/SOPs
Diagnose & communicate all faults and production area issues to the Team Leaders
Be an adaptable individual who enjoys variety, change and flexibility and who can react to fluid situations
Be an effective communicator, able to adapt your communication style
Effective problem solving, creative thinking and analytical skills
Someone who is adaptable to frequently changing circumstances
Knowledge of LOTO & permits to work
Basic first aid qualifications (desirable)
Comfortable with shift working covering a 24/7 operation and the associated unsociable elements for shift positions
Comfortable with exposure to hot/cold end and sometimes noisy operational environment
