As the Shift Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our shift consistently meets production targets while effectively leading and developing our talented Team Leaders. You will be instrumental in maintaining our commitment to delivering high-quality products, on time, every time, exceeding customer expectations. Reporting directly to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for the smooth operation of our production and warehouse areas.
What you'll be doing:
Leading and Empowering:
Effectively manage and mentor shift Team Leaders, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
Driving Production Performance:
Monitor staff output to ensure the daily production plan is achieved, implementing recovery plans as needed.
Optimising Efficiency:
Ensure the effective and efficient utilisation of production labour and materials, contributing to value and efficiency improvements across all processes.
Planning and Coordination:
Liaise with production planning to align forward manning plans with production requirements.
Maintaining High Standards:
Ensure the site is consistently organised and tidy, establishing daily routines for clearing non-essential items.
Data-Driven Decision Making:
Attend production meetings, providing relevant data and insights to support informed decision-making.
Performance Management:
Monitor Team Leader performance, ensuring adherence to company policies regarding attendance and timekeeping.
Fostering Collaboration:
Promote strong inter-shift and inter-departmental cooperation and a positive team-based culture.
Achieving Targets:
Work closely with the Production Manager to ensure production targets and KPIs are consistently met.
Implementing and Monitoring Controls:
Establish and oversee effective systems and methods of control for labour and materials, regularly updating and formulating relevant data.
Championing Health & Safety:
Monitor and enforce Health & Safety policies and procedures, actively participating in H&S meetings, ensuring risk management, and overseeing accident investigations and appropriate actions.
Driving Quality Improvements:
Collaborate with the Management team to track quality information, implement improvements, and ensure adherence to quality policies.
Embracing Continuous Improvement:
Work with the Production Manager to implement CI techniques, contribute to a lean production culture, and monitor metrics such as TPM and downtime.
Ensuring Equipment Efficiency:
Liaise with the Management team to advise on maintenance requirements, improving machinery efficiencies and ensuring TPM implementation.
Maintaining Quality Standards:
Ensure fire samples are produced according to the production plan, promptly reporting any shortfalls.
Upholding Personnel Policies:
Ensure consistent adherence to all company Personnel policies and procedures.
Promoting Open Communication:
Foster open and honest communication across the shift and with all department employees.
Supporting New Starters:
Ensure all new employees receive thorough inductions in line with company standards.
Effective Communication:
Liaise effectively at all levels and across shifts, utilising strong communication and leadership skills.
Managing Attendance:
Accurately record daily staffing levels, including sickness and lateness, in line with company policy.
Ensuring Safe Return to Work:
Ensure timely completion of Return to Work (RTW) documentation, escalating any concerns immediately to ensure staff are fully fit before resuming duties.
Flexibility:
Undertake any other duties reasonably requested to ensure the efficient operation of the business.
Scope of Authority:
With HR support, you will have the authority to issue verbal recorded warnings and participate in investigations for disciplinary matters.
What you'll bring:
Proven experience in a production management or supervisory role within a manufacturing environment.
Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
Excellent understanding of production processes, planning, and efficiency improvement techniques.
A proactive and results-oriented approach with a strong focus on achieving targets.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
A strong commitment to health and safety standards.
Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, TPM) is desirable.
Ability to analyse data and make informed decisions.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
