Shift Supervisor (Tier 1+)

Job Title: Shift Supervisor

Reports to: Production Unit Manager

Job Purpose: Responsible for a team of Operators covering a 24/7 continental shift pattern, ensuring production targets are met in all areas in accordance with business objectives and strategic plans.

Shift Supervisor - Tier 1



Main Duties and Responsibilities:



1. Management of a team of operators.

2. Conduct daily meetings and ensure all production targets are communicated to the shift.

3. Assist the Supervisor to plan the running of production work cells for optimum productivity.

4. Report shifts production figures.

5. Ensure all priority orders are communicated and progressed across the shifts.

6. Ensure compliance with all quality standards.

7. Resolve shift issues relating to quality, productivity, equipment downtime and team members.

8. Review team performance regularly to identify areas for improvement and encourage progress of individual team members through performance reviews and annual appraisals.

9. Complete all people management tasks (e.g. attendance, absence, and performance management) and update records on PeopleHR.

10. Contribute to the planning, organisation, operation and installation of all new processes and equipment within the Unit.

11. Ensure regular communication/briefing to provide the team with the relevant information to carry out their shift to maximum effect.

12. Support the management of stock control in partnership with the Supply Chain Team

13. Support the reduction of scrap levels.

Candidate Requirements:



1. Experience of leading and influencing others in a manufacturing environment

2. Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement activities

4. Confident in making decisions.

5. Adept in the use of Microsoft Office

Shift Supervisor - Tier 2



Main Duties and Responsibilities:



1. All duties set out in tier 1.

2. Monitor progress against targets and report to Production Supervisor with recommendations.

3. Make recommendations for the running of production work cells to achieve optimum productivity, whilst developing contingency for unplanned downtime

4. Understand shift data and explore trends and patterns relating to output.

5. Take a proactive approach to preparing for priority orders and maintain a process for expediting requests.

6. Support audit activity carried out for quality purposes.

7. Work to mitigate shift issues through open communication and engagement.

8. Support continuous professional development and empower team members to progress.

9. Implement effective people management techniques and develop a culture of trust and confidence.

10. Support the implementation of new processes and equipment through the effective communication with, and engagement of, team members.

11. Enable regular communication from team members whilst ensuring resulting action is taken as appropriate.

12. Have cognisance of stock levels (current and required) at any time and make adjustments to accommodate stock levels as required.

13. Proactively support planned scrap reduction actions and monitor performance against targets.

15. Conduct regular 1-2-1s with direct reports.

Shift Supervisor - Tier 3



Main duties and Responsibilities:



1. All duties set out in tier 1 and 2.

2. Monitor progress against targets and take responsive action as required, whilst defining and managing own KPI's

3. Liaise with the Production Controller to develop medium-term production plans.

4. Report, analyse and explain production figures with recommendations for following shifts as required.

5. Establish an infrastructure to support priority orders, generating additional capacity as part of workflow planning.

6. Review audit results and take remedial action as applicable.

7. Proactively foster positive relationships within shifts and establish team morale.

8. Establish mechanisms to optimise team performance and develop collaborative working.

9. Manage a team effectively and empower team members to take accountability for their own employment journey, whilst establishing goals and objectives for team members

10. Contribute to SOPs and DOI's, providing assertive feedback, and look to make recommendations for development when in production.

11. Secure communication from team members to establish a mutually agreeable channel for open dialogue.

12. Collect and manage own data to keep abreast of scrap reduction.

13. Develop own methods to achieve scrap reduction, implementing appropriate testing and consultation with the Quality Team

14. Look and plan ahead for any people recourse issues and has adequate capacity to run the shift.

15. Reacts quickly and effectively to any Safety, Quality and throughput issues that occur during shift.

Candidate Requirements:



1. All requirements set out in tier 1 and 2.

2. Experience of manging a CI project

3. Self-sufficient using MRP (priority)

4. Ability to plan, implement and work to established training methods.

5. Ability to identify problems and put countermeasures in place.

Shift Supervisor - Tier 4



Main duties and Responsibilities:



1. All duties set out in tier 1, 2 and 3.

2. Monitor progress against targets and identify causes of under/over performance for the purpose of achieving improvements and preventing recurring issues.

3. Work with the Production Controller and Production Supervisor to develop a long-term production plan, with appropriate resilience and contingency to enable adaptation as required.

4. Undertake regular data analysis and identify patterns to inform future production planning.

5. Collect feedback from priority order processes and review team member behaviour that was conducive to the outcome.

6. Conduct and manage internal audits in relation to quality and implement subsequent actions.

7. Lead by example and aim to have the highest performing, most effective, shift in the organisation.

8. Take remedial action - including formal disciplinary action - as required to enhance performance and establish incentivisation techniques.

9. Support the growth and development of individual team members, whilst leading by example and role-modelling high performance

10. Be accountable for the successful implementation of new processes and equipment.

11. Enable peer feedback and review within the shift, and from other departments, to support open communication.

12. Use the strategic scrap reduction target to devise specific targets for team members communicated through SMART objectives.

13. Implement strategic actions required to achieve scrap reduction targets, and conduct shift-specific activity as deemed appropriate.

14. Take responsibility for the accuracy and effectiveness of SOP's, making changes as required and rolling out to team with support from Training Coordinator

16. Follows standard work and proposes improvements to standard work.

Candidate Requirements:

2. Ability to facilitate and implement changes to improve the process using advanced problem solving and Kaizen.

3. Experience of identifying a CI opportunity and developing and implementing a project task group for implementation.

4. Strong analytical skills.

5. Leadership Qualification.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 32,801.00-42,025.00 per year
