The role will operate a plant and manage a production shift team. During their shift, the holder of this role is often the most senior person on site responsible for all site operations outside of normal hours.

You will be a team leader of shift process technicians although you will also be comfortable working on an individual basis
Good communication skills
You will be an effective problem solver, able to identify and analyse problems quickly and you will have a high level of attention to detail
You will be able to work flexibly and be capable of organising your workload as the situation dictates
You must be computer literate
Experience of working on a chemical site is advantageous
A forklift truck (counterbalance) license is advantageous
Ideally, you will be City & Guilds qualified in Process Operations, hold an NVQ level 2 in Process Operations, or be qualified to higher education
Knowledge of SAP is desirable but not essential.
What You'll Be Doing:
As a Shift Team Leader, you will be leading a team that values diversity, sustainability, and continuous innovation, where your ideas and contributions matter. The shift pattern rotates between 12hour day/night shifts on a rotating cycle.
As part of your role, you will be leading and operating a range of complex process plants to the agreed standards by following site procedures and instructions. You will be expected to effectively plan and organise your work and materials during your shift.
Other duties include:
Routinely follow written and verbal instructions in order to run the plant(s) safely and efficiently. To be highly visible in encouraging safe behaviour, setting high standards and not tolerating substandard work especially in relation to rule and procedural based violations.
Understand and identify risks and potential problems and decide on courses of action to rectify or elevate to line management.
Identify, explain, prioritise and possibly implement ideas for safety and efficiency improvements in area of work. This will sometimes involve multi-disciplinary team working.
Effectively and accurately communicate with people in the production team and other functions on site (e.g. maintenance, planning & logistics). This will be mainly verbal, e-mail and written.
Be accountable for own health and safety and for those around them who could be affected by their actions.
Make routine decisions on plant and site service operations following procedures.
Effectively plan & organise work and materials on own shift and prepare for oncoming shift in area of responsibility to achieve the site logistics and production plans.
To train, develop and coach new recruits in their roles. This will include objective setting, appraisals and first line disciplinary action.
Risk assess relevant activities and advise on risk reduction. Issue permits to work for production plants.
To carry out agreed analytical testing.
To identify and deal with emergency situations and follow emergency procedures. This could involve direct liaison with the emergency services and regulatory bodies (HSE, EA etc).
