The Shipwright is responsible for the construction, repair, maintenance, and modification of ships and marine structures. This role involves working with steel, aluminium, wood, and composite materials to ensure vessels are structurally sound, seaworthy, and compliant with safety and classification standards.
Key Responsibilities
Construct, repair, and maintain ship hulls, decks, bulkheads, and superstructures
Read and interpret ship drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials using hand and power tools
Perform steelwork, aluminium work, or wooden ship construction as required
Install and repair fittings, frames, plating, doors, hatches, and structural components
Carry out alignment, fairing, and structural inspections
Assist in dry dock operations, refits, and conversions
Ensure work complies with classification society rules and safety standards
Follow occupational health, safety, and environmental procedures
Coordinate with welders, engineers, and supervisors
Qualifications & Requirements
Technical certificate, apprenticeship, or vocational training in shipbuilding or marine construction
Proven experience as a shipwright or similar role
Ability to read and understand marine drawings and specifications
Knowledge of shipbuilding materials and fabrication techniques
Familiarity with tools, machinery, and lifting equipment that are commonly used in repair of vessels
Physically fit and able to work in confined spaces and at heights
Driving License.

Monday to Thursday: 08:00 to 16:30
Friday: 08:00 to 15:30
39 hour week
Holiday
25 days. Initially 23 days and earn one extra day every two years up to 25 days. These days can be bought during the first 4 years and is paid back over the year.

Hourly Rate: 17.23
Pension
Enrolled in the Workplace Pension after 3 months with Company contributions
Sick
Statutory Sick pay.
