Shop Keyholder

Cheltenham, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About the role:

FoodLoose is a Community Benefit Society (CBS) seeking to offer the people of Cheltenham the opportunity to shop on a more ethical framework, prioritising low mileage, organic and low plastic sources. We set up our own shop to lead the way on a model of retail that we believe represents a better future for our community and our planet. The majority of our staff are volunteers.

The Saturday keyholder will be responsible for performing all tasks to open and/or close the shop, taking the lead in running the shop throughout the day, and managing other volunteers, all with the goal of ensuring that our retail operation offers a welcoming customer-facing experience.

The way we work:

FoodLoose is a local business committed to keeping the environmental impact of human food production, retail and consumption as low as possible whilst still operating a profitable enterprise. Being a non-profit community benefit society means we wish to put our profits back into the community, first by building our business to meet our aspirations and, second, by supporting charities and other enterprises in the Cheltenham area with similar aspirations and goals.

We rely heavily on the good will and energy of our strong team of volunteers who take on roles across the organisation from directors to the shop floor. Without these volunteers FoodLoose would not exist.

Our volunteers work on a rota to undertake the day to day running of the shop. The successful candidate will be responsible for running the shop on Saturdays, managing the volunteers and assisting customers as required.

What we're looking for

We are looking for someone who agrees that working towards a lower-impact system of food supply is a positive goal for our community and the world and to participate, with us, in the pursuit of that goal.

FoodLoose needs keyholders who are not afraid to get stuck in. There will be opportunities to step outside of the job description and participate in community activities. We're therefore looking for someone who is self-motivated to develop their skills and will support the successful candidate to pursue their passions and development goals in other areas they find of interest.

You would join a small team of paid employees working alongside the volunteers.

Skills required:

Ultimately, we are a close network of people passionate about making a difference. If you feel you could bring energy and enthusiasm to the keyholder role then we'd love to hear from you. There are some important skills that we feel would make someone particularly suited for this role:

A keen interest in reducing single-use plastics and in promoting ethical businesses Great customer service skills Willingness to learn and undertake health and safety requirements Good numeracy and literacy Experience overseeing and training entry level staff and/or volunteers Good decision making, delegation and risk assessment skills
