Love cheese? So do we! George Mewes Cheese, Scotland's premier outlet for artisanal cheeses, has an exciting opportunity for a manager to lead a dedicated team at our Edinburgh shop.

We are looking for a shop manager who is passionate about great food and wants to share that passion with our discerning customers. You'll be hands-on and highly visible in making our architect-designed Edinburgh store a must-visit destination for food lovers while instilling your enthusiasm into our team of cheesemongers.

We need someone with a can-do attitude and great communication skills who is open and friendly to customers, setting excellent standards in presenting and looking after our artisan cheeses. You'll have experience of inspiring and supporting a team while being ready to roll up your sleeves and lead by example.

Specific knowledge of cheese is desirable but not essential, as full training will be given. A background as a chef or in food retail would be helpful.

What will you be doing?

As the shop manager, you'll be responsible for:

Increasing sales and ensuring efficiency and high standards within the shop

Ensuring hygiene is maintained to a very high level (we pride ourselves on this)

Maintaining relevant paperwork associated with hygiene and health, for example, cleaning schedules, temperature control and best before/use by dates

Strategic planning and setting achievable goals

Quickly responding to customer feedback and investigating further if necessary (customer satisfaction is very important to us)

Managing the staff rota and ensuring our team members complete a variety of tasks

Effectively deputising for the Director when necessary

Dealing with daily cash up and credit card transactions

You may also be required on occasion to complete wholesale and retail customer deliveries and regularly handle heavy objects (a wheel of Comte is pretty big!). Full training will be given for this.
