Our charity boutique in Weeke, Winchester, offers something a little different in the world of charity shops.
You will find high-quality second-hand clothes and accessories at affordable prices, as well as a selection of books, bric-a-brac and art.
As Manager, your duties will range from receiving donations of goods from our customers, recruiting, managing and motivating volunteers, as well as making sure the shop is welcoming and inviting. In addition, you will be responsible for ensuring that donated goods are prepared and sorted ready for future sale. This role will involve a significant amount of manual handling, for which specific training will be provided to you.

Overview of Role
To maximise sales and minimise costs, through accountable effective management of employees, volunteers, stock and administration. Responsible for motivating and training all employees and volunteers who work in your shop ensuring that they maintain our high standards at all times. Create a team spirit in your shop in line with Countess Mountbatten's Hospice Values. Deliver excellent customer service and present a professional image to employees, volunteers and customers at all times reflecting the image, reputation and values of Mountbatten. Liaise with other departments within Mountbatten, including Warehouse, Fundraising, Finance, People Services and Voluntary Services.
Key Tasks:
Sales
Achieve profit targets, advising of any concerns to the Retail Area Manager
Ensure that the high standard of service to customers that is expected by Mountbatten is maintained at all times
Actively support any fundraising promotions as required by Mountbatten
Implement any promotion in your shop as advised by Mountbatten
Shop Appearance
Maintain a high standard of presentation, both in the windows and the interior of the shop
Ensure the sales floor layout is as per the current guidelines in conjunction with the Retail Area Manager.
Achieve and maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation and cleanliness throughout the shop premises.
Ensure the window and in-store displays are relevant and of a good standard
Stock
Price stock at a consistent level in accordance with Mountbatten price guides
Ensure the shop floor stock density is kept full by ensuring there is adequate stock available at all times.
Work with donors to facilitate the safe drop off or collection of items.
Rotate stock on a regular basis in line with Mountbatten guidelines, so that no garment remains on the shop floor for any longer than the agreed time limits
Ensure there is adequate stock available on the shop floor at all times, on all key lines including hanging and non-hanging, ticketing, sizing and dating all clothing as appropriate
Actively ask and promote Gift Aid to all customers
Ensure the quality of stock is of an acceptable standard and report/return any items to the warehouse that do not meet the required quality standard
Stock Areas
Keep stock areas organised, uncluttered and promote safe working practices.
Organise the return of stock to storage
Report to the Retail Area Manager any stock issues
Ensure not stock is hoarded in the shop, and that all out of season stock is sent to storage in accordance with Mountbatten procedures
Volunteers
Ensure that tasks are properly delegated to volunteers in accordance with their training and abilities
Promote a happy working environment to increase efficiency and job satisfaction
Assist in the recruitment and training of Volunteers including all Health and Safety
Encourage volunteers to take on key roles and extra responsibility
Communicate any concerns in relation to volunteers to the Retail Area Manager/Volunteer Coordinator
Organise and manage the volunteers rota; ensuring everyone is aware of their hours of work
Administration and Security
Complete all relevant administration on time in accordance to our policies and procedures
Ensure correct procedures are followed for receipt of donated goods, including Gift Aid, Recording of donors as appropriate
Bank takings in accordance with Mountbatten procedures
Order consumables/stationary as necessary
Ensure that all Mountbatten till procedures are adhered to and that cash is kept secure at all times
Notify the Retail Area Manager in the event of a break in, suspected theft or security incident (this includes suspected dishonesty by employees or volunteers)
Report immediately any concerns regarding abuse/incidents of unacceptable behavior either by or towards customers, members of the public, employees or volunteers
Liaise with the Retail Area Manager as required to request holiday, report absences and organise cover for the shop.
Attend all Shop Manager meetings as required.
Provide cover, as requested, at any of the other Mountbatten retail outlets when required.
Health and Safety
Provide a safe environment that protects all employees, volunteers and the public
Comply with all health and safety regulations as per Mountbatten's health and safety policy and procedures
Ensure that all Risk Assessments are current and that all employees/volunteers working in the shop are aware of them. Update and amend Risk assessments as necessary, seeking guidance from the Retail Area Manager when required
In conjunction with the Retail Area Manager, set and pursue sales targets and initiatives
Ensure that all shop management and working practices follow Mountbatten policies and procedures
Attend all Shop Manager Meetings as required
Provide cover, as requested, at any of the other Mountbatten retail outlets when required.
