Short-Term Contract: Head Chef / 20 per hour

Location: Kendal, Cumbria

Contract Type: Temporary / Short-term (1st Nov - 4th Dec 2025)

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Head Chef for a short-term contract to lead our kitchen team at a busy, high-quality gastropub in Kendal. The ideal candidate will be a creative, passionate, and organised professional capable of maintaining our high standards during this period. This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic individual to showcase their leadership skills and culinary talent within a respected establishment.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage and lead all aspects of the kitchen's daily operations, including food preparation, cooking, and plating during a high-volume service. Develop and execute seasonally inspired, fresh-food menus that align with the gastropub's reputation for quality British cuisine. Ensure the kitchen operates efficiently and profitably by managing inventory, controlling food costs, and minimising waste. Maintain the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness at all times, ensuring full compliance with health and safety regulations. Oversee and mentor the kitchen brigade, fostering a positive and productive working environment. Effectively manage suppliers, ensuring the quality and freshness of all ingredients.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

Proven experience as a Head Chef or a strong Senior Sous Chef in a busy gastropub or quality restaurant environment. A creative flair for British cuisine, using fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients. Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to perform under pressure. Up-to-date Food Hygiene and Health & Safety certification (minimum Level 3 preferred). Strong organisational and time management skills.
