TITLE OF POST: Sighted Support Worker to the CEO

RESPONSIBLE TO: Chief Executive Officer

SALARY: 14,905

HOURS: 21 hours per week

RESPONSIBLE FOR: N/a

LOCATION: Based in Huddersfield and Batley. Required to attend locations across Kirklees.

ANNUAL LEAVE: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays pro rata.

MAIN PURPOSE

Outlookers is the local sight loss charity supporting over 600 people across Kirklees. As Sighted Support to the CEO your role is to enable the CEO, who is visually impaired, to successfully carry out their responsibilities by providing sighted assistance and support. This includes enabling the CEO to access and interpret information, complete tasks, and manage organisational processes effectively. You will need to work flexibly within a fast paced charity environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enable the CEO to manage operations: locate and interpret documents (online and paper-based), summarise key points, that will assist then to prepare documents, e.g. reports, budgets and trustee documentation. Enable the CEO to complete grant & funding applications: help navigate application portals and forms, gather and verify required information, and ensure CEO can review and approve applications. Enable the CEO to monitor grants & reporting: support the collation of data from the Management Information System, assist in preparing reports, and check online reporting forms for completeness. Enable the CEO to manage bookkeeping: read receipts and invoices aloud or summarise details, file and scan documentation, and support with the input of transactions into accounting systems as directed. Enable the CEO to use databases: maintain and update records in Charity Log or similar systems, ensuring data integrity and accuracy. Enable the CEO to analyse data: use Excel functions (including lookups, pivot tables, and formulas) to prepare reports and present data in accessible formats. Enable the CEO to communicate effectively: assist with navigating email threads, take notes during meetings, and read online chat during virtual meetings. Enable the CEO to interact with Service Users/Professionals: identify people and sighted guide if required. Enter details from voice notes into service user records accurately.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATIONS

A good level of education, specifically in English and Maths, e.g. GCSE Grade C or above.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

Experience using Microsoft Excel at an advanced level, including VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and formulas. Experience in database management, including data entry, extraction, and generating reports. Experience working in an administrative or operational support role. Experience handling confidential information accurately.
Desirable

Experience of working with a person with sight loss. Familiarity with Charity Log or similar specialist database. Knowledge of grant application processes and reporting requirements. Basic bookkeeping experience. Experience working in a small team, including volunteers.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Essential

Able to provide visual assistance to the CEO. Ability to read and interpret documents and assist with visual tasks. Ability to plan and manage a varying workload flexibly. Strong organisational skills, including problem-solving and meeting deadlines. Ability to summarise complex information clearly. Ability to learn and adapt to new software and systems quickly. Strong interpersonal skills for liaising with stakeholders.
Desirable

Ability to work independently while following direction. Ability to find and interpret relevant information online and offline (research skills). Adaptability to work in a fast-paced charity environment.
