Overview



A

Sign Language Teacher

is an educator who specializes in teaching individuals how to communicate using sign language, such as American Sign Language (ASL) or other regional sign systems. They design and deliver lessons that develop students' signing, finger spelling, and expressive/receptive communication skills. Sign Language Teachers work with diverse learners -- including students, professionals, and community members -- fostering inclusivity and awareness of Deaf culture and communication accessibility. We are looking for a sign language teacher to join our team. This would be for an afterschool club, at a primary school based in

Trafford, Manchester, M33.



DAY & TIME TBC



Key Responsibilities:



Plan and deliver engaging lessons in sign language vocabulary, grammar, and conversation. Teach about Deaf culture, history, and communication etiquette. Adapt teaching methods to meet different learning styles and proficiency levels. Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback. Create a positive, inclusive, and accessible learning environment. Collaborate with other educators, interpreters, and Deaf community members to enhance instruction.

Skills & Qualifications:



Proficiency in sign language (e.g., ASL, BSL, or regional equivalent). Strong understanding of Deaf culture and community. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Teaching certification or experience in language education (preferred). Patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity.

To empower students with the ability to communicate effectively in sign language, promote inclusivity, and bridge the gap between the Deaf and hearing communities.

BSL: 1 year (required)
