Sign Maker (welding & Fabrication)

Glasgow, SCT, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

DAW Signs is expanding fast, securing nationwide signage, retail, and commercial fit-out contracts, and increasing our in-house manufacturing capacity. To support this growth, we're now looking to add a second skilled Sign Maker (Welding & Fabrication) to our production team.

Job Overview:

As a Sign Maker (Welding & Fabrication) at DAW Signs, you will play a key role in the manufacture of high-quality signage and structural components. Working as part of our in-house production team, you'll be responsible for fabricating and welding sign trays, frames, posts, and bespoke metalwork using MIG (and ideally TIG) welding techniques.

This is a hands-on role that requires a strong eye for detail, the ability to read technical drawings, and confidence using workshop machinery. You'll be joining an expanding team as we scale up our operations to meet growing demand across the UK's signage, retail, and commercial fit-out sectors.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in light-gauge fabrication, a proactive attitude, and a willingness to support colleagues across production when needed. In return, you'll work in a well-equipped workshop with a supportive team, contributing to high-impact projects nationwide.

What you'll do:

Fabricate sign structures and letterforms

using MIG/TIG welding on aluminium, stainless steel, and mild steel sections.

Build and finish trays, frames, posts, and bespoke metalwork

, ensuring every weld is neat, strong, and ready for powder-coating or paint.

Interpret technical drawings and cutting lists

, setting out jobs accurately and keeping scrap to a minimum.

Operate workshop machinery

(guillotine, press brake, rollers, pillar drill, grinders, etc.) safely and efficiently.

Collaborate with print, vinyl, and assembly colleagues

so that every project flows smoothly through production to installation.

Maintain a clean, organised welding bay

and carry out daily/weekly equipment checks. Pitch in with wider sign-making tasks, occasional on-site fitting, basic fabrication for our Durst and Viewtech print departments, or assisting with final assembly when deadlines demand it.

What we're looking for:

Proven experience in light-gauge welding/fabrication (signage, shop-fitting, POS, or similar). Competent in MIG welding (TIG an advantage); confident setting up jigs and fixtures for repeat work. Ability to read CAD drawings and measure accurately. A safety-first mindset and solid knowledge of workshop PPE and safe lifting. Positive, can-do attitude and readiness to support teammates across disciplines when required.
