Brief Description

To act as a signalling scheme specialist for all signalling alterations within the Wales & Western Region.

Specialising in scheme risk analysis ensuring emerging good practice and lessons learnt from other schemes nationally are adopted within the Wales & Western region.

Provide support and guidance in signalling risk analysis to allocated signalling schemes within the Wales & Western region.

Assist in the national Major scheme plan review process.

About the role (External)

Your Main Responsibilities will be to:

1. Carry out engineering risk assessment of allocated proposals from Strategic Development & project Selection into Project Design.

2. Provide specialist advice to teams developing signalling layouts across all functions within Capital Delivery, Asset management, Route Services and external suppliers.

3. Manage the minor scheme plan sign-off process for allocated routes.

4. Monitor for consistency in the application of risk ID and evaluation methods (e.g.HAZOP, QRA, SORAT, and the NR/L2/SIG/14201), as suitable to evaluate and compare options.

5. Review risk analysis of schemes in development and provide functional direction to the teams.

6. Provide specialist advice resource so that all detailed engineering and development activities, result in schemes that are affordable, meet programme requirements in a safe & environmentally responsible manner and are delivered to time, cost and quality.

7. Maintain an interface with W&W Regional and National Signal Engineers within the Engineering Function.

You will ideally have

\xc2\xb7 Working towards an engineering degree or equivalent industry-recognised training qualification.

\xc2\xb7 IRSE Licence holder Signalling Principles Designer or Signalling Schemes Designer, Signalling Design Verifier, Design Manager (S) or working towards.

\xc2\xb7 A demonstrable aptitude for option development.

\xc2\xb7 Strong evaluation and decision-making skills.

\xc2\xb7 A working knowledge of rail engineering; relevant successful experience working in the signalling discipline and an adequate understanding of all other related disciplines.

\xc2\xb7 An ability to work and communicate effectively in a team context.

\xc2\xb7 An appreciation of all the life cycle stages of rail infrastructure.

\xc2\xb7 Formal qualifications in risk identification and assessment.
