35 hours per week: The usual hours of work for this post are: Wednesday to Friday 8am - 6.30pm (1 hour lunch) and Saturdays 10am - 5pm (30 mins lunch). However, there will be occasions where your 35 hours are spread between Monday to Friday for various events and training opportunities.

Thank you for your interest in the post of Signwriting Craft Fellow with Historic Environment Scotland that will be based with Ross Hastie Signs Ltd in Alloa, Clackmannanshire with travel across Scotland on various projects. This is a fixed term position for 18 months.
You will work closely with Ross Hastie, https://www.rosshastiesigns.com/ , supporting live projects whilst gaining experience in traditional signwriting, gold leaf gilding and commercial artistry. You will work on projects including shop fronts, windows, murals, artwork, signs, and paintwork restoration work on vintage vehicles. You will learn skills in lettering, the application of gold leaf, and paint systems, including choosing the appropriate paint for a project.
This post is part of a wider programme of Craft Fellowships across Scotland. Craft Fellows have the opportunity to gain practical experience, learn from experts in their chosen field or craft, increase their knowledge of the wider conservation sector, expand their professional network and have access to a wide range of learning resources from The Engine Shed, Scotland's dedicated Conservation Resource Centre.

Key Responsibilities of this role
Your responsibilities and duties include:
Carrying out work in a professional manner, whilst working on conservation/restoration projects and whilst representing HES at events, conferences, and training workshops.
Health and Safety, not only for yourself, but also for anyone who might be affected by any of the work you are carrying out. It is important that you ensure that you and others are safe in all elements of your work.
Using, caring for and maintaining various tools and equipment. All training related to this will be provided.
Supporting and learning from Ross Hastie, whilst also taking responsibility for your own learning and personal development, and the recording and reporting of this to HES.
Being an active member of the HES Craft Fellowship Programme, and getting involved with training, continued professional development opportunities, and the Craft Fellow network.
Supporting with the delivery of training, education visits and outreach events both within the signwriting field and through HES's Engine Shed programme.

Comfortable working at height and working outdoors in varying conditions (reasonable adjustment will be considered where possible)
