Job Description

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Clinical Education team as a Simulation Technician. You will play a vital role in supporting high-quality immersive learning experiences for healthcare staff. This exciting role combines technical expertise with creativity, supporting the setup, operation, and maintenance of cutting-edge simulation technologies--including high-fidelity manikins, audio-visual systems, and virtual reality platforms.



As a key member of the simulation team, you will lead on technical operations during training scenarios, ensuring smooth, realistic, and engaging learning environments. You will also be responsible for equipment servicing, troubleshooting, and supporting programme administration such as feedback collection and data management.



This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong IT and AV skills who enjoys problem-solving, teamwork, and hands-on technical work. This role offers the chance to directly enhance clinical training and make a real impact on patient care.



Planning, Design and Delivery -

Operate high-fidelity manikins and manage simulation equipment (AV, VR, materials) to ensure smooth training delivery. Prepare and maintain learning spaces, provide technical support during sessions, and collaborate with educators. Manage digital tools (Forms, Lists, SharePoint) to support programmes.



Monitoring and Safety -

Manage equipment maintenance and servicing. Contribute to audits, and evaluation and reporting malfunctions. Uphold confidentiality, policies, and health and safety standards while maintaining professional development in simulation practice.



Communication -

Work closely with educators and experts to deliver learning scenarios. Support interdepartmental collaboration, agendas, invites, and secretarial duties.



Finance and Budget -

Oversee equipment storage and booking, liaising with providers for servicing. Support cost-effective resource use and manage procurement of equipment and consumables.



Personal Management and Organisational Responsibilities -

Support programme administration, data collection, and logistics. Provide faculty training on simulation technology. Liaise with digital services for multi-site meetings and presentations.



Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.



We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.



We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.



Our services are provided in:



Four main hospitals:

Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest

Five community hospitals:

Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire

Two integrated care centres:

Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings

47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers

Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services



The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
