Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join the nursing team on Steffan Ward at Glangwili General General Hospital.



Steffan is a 18 bed General Medical ward specialising in Gastroenterology/ Haematology.

You will need to demonstrate the ability to lead the team with a strong emphasis on keeping the patients at the centre of everything we do



The successful candidate should be an enthusiastic team member, recent experience within Gastroenterology/ Haematology and the ability to provide a high standard of care at all times



Evidence of continuing professional development is essential.



You will support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in the development of relevant policies, procedures and protocols for their area of responsibility ensuring that they meet national, local and professional criteria, submitting them to the Senior Nurse Manager for agreement prior to submission for ratification.



Combine excellent clinical practice with day to day shift coordination and undertaking leadership and management responsibilities in support of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.



Continually support and work in conjunction with the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, including deputising/taking charge of the clinical area/team in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.



Provide supervisory management and leadership skills in a clinical environment which is complex and pressurised.



Provide professional nursing leadership and guidance (in line with NMC standards), clinical advice and undertake management and monitoring activities to ensure the effective delivery of high standards of nursing care at all times



Work alongside the nursing team members, providing support to junior colleagues in the provision of direct care.



Proactively contribute to the implementation of the NMC Standards for education (2018) including the standards for student supervision and assessment.



Provide leadership and role modelling in the development and mentorship of new and other staff.



Demonstrate the Health Board's values in everything that you do in the work environment.



Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.



We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.



We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.



Our services are provided in:



Four main hospitals:

Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest



Five community hospitals:

Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire



Two integrated care centres:

Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings



47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers



Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services



The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
