Job Description

We are looking for a Site General Manager to lead the operations and strategic direction of a key Primeline Express site, overseeing a business unit that is part of the largest independent Irish provider of express road freight between Ireland and the UK. This role is vital in delivering excellence across our UK-Ireland-UK Express Service, Scottish Express Service, and European Import/Export Services.


You will be responsible for driving high performance in customer service, operations, compliance, people leadership, and commercial delivery. You will also be instrumental in evolving site capabilities in line with Primeline Express's dedication to continuous improvement, innovation, and strategic growth.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?




Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing express freight customers, offering agile and intelligent solutions.


Use data-driven insights to identify opportunities to improve KPIs around delivery performance, service reliability, and turnaround times.


Manage the site P&L, applying precise pricing and costing strategies across both standard and custom freight solutions.


Lead with a commercial mindset, identifying cost efficiencies while protecting service quality and responsiveness.


Collaborate closely with the Transport and Customer Services teams to fine-tune express service offerings.


Provide leadership and oversight to ensure the transport operation remains fully compliant with all legislation including but not limited to EU Drivers Hours Regulations and Driver Working Time Directive Regulations and Health and Safety at Work Act.


Hold overall accountability for driver and vehicle compliance within the operation.


Lead a high-performance culture-ensuring speed, accuracy, and excellence in delivery for all customers.


Resolve escalated customer issues effectively, ensuring fast turnaround and root cause analysis.


Manage the full freight cycle from order intake, customs clearance and import, through to final dispatch.


Forecast and manage stock flow based on demand variance, minimising service interruptions.


Deliver on target lead times across cross-channel services, monitoring and adapting continuously.


Attend weekly Operational Leadership meetings to drive best practice and share insights across the Group.


Plan for seasonal freight surges, border impacts, and service model updates.


Report on account performance against KPIs, controlling agency spend and labour planning tightly.


Oversee cycle counts and full stocktakes, ensuring swift action on discrepancies.


Monitor and review POD performance and customer billing accuracy on a weekly basis.


Drive colleague engagement and development, creating succession pipelines and nurturing team growth.


Conduct regular performance reviews, align team goals to business objectives, and foster an accountable culture.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED





Proven resilience and drive to exceed goals through persistence, focus, and agility.


Proven experience in high-volume logistics or freight leadership, ideally within express transport or road freight operations.


Demonstrated ability to build engaged teams and foster a culture of learning and development.


Strategic thinker with strong analytical ability and commercial insight.


Ability to problem-solve under pressure and deliver quick, effective solutions.


A collaborative leader who supports and challenges others to be their best.


High standards in planning, communication, and stakeholder management.


Comfortable managing shifting priorities, changing customer requirements, and cross-border complexities.


5+ years in a senior operational leadership role in transport, logistics, or supply chain environments (UK/IE/Euro freight experience advantageous).


Deep understanding of transport compliance, H&S legislation, and customs/international trade regulations.


Comfortable with logistics systems, technology, and data analytics tools.


A team-first attitude with the ability to influence, engage, and lead from the front.
