Job Description

The St Padarn Institute is the theological college of the Church in Wales; it is a Christian learning community, which puts the learner experience at the heart of all it does. This role plays a significant part in helping to ensure that St Padarn's is a safe, well-maintained and hospitable environment conducive to learning and working by planning, conducting, and coordinating the maintenance of its site in Llandaff, Cardiff, and contributing to the planning of enhancements and developments.

Essential



Sound knowledge of building structures and building services systems with a proven ability to manage maintenance or construction projects effectively from inception to completion. Comprehensive and current understanding of Health and Safety legislation and the ability to apply it in daily operations, including in relation to statutory servicing of plant and equipment by competent persons and in assessing and managing risk across diverse site activities and environments. Broad hands-on maintenance skills, with a commitment to ongoing professional development and improvement, learning new skills as needed. Drive to identify and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and value, maintaining high standards and taking pride in delivering high quality work. Understanding the importance of compliance with planning and heritage legislation such as Listed Building Consent, Planning Permission and Building Regulations. Advanced problem-solving abilities to address both routine and complex maintenance issues. Diplomacy and tact in dealing with a range of individuals, including staff, learners, contractors, and visitors, with strong collaborative skills and a team-oriented approach to achieving success. Clear and effective communicator, both in writing and verbally, with various stakeholders. Experience in people management. Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks under pressure, and to work accurately at speed maintain attention to detail in a demanding environment. Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including responding to emergencies. Adaptability to new processes, systems, or environments, and a willingness to embrace change. Demonstrated commitment, reliability, and a strong work ethic. Meticulous record-keeping. Proficiency in IT and the use of relevant digital tools for reporting and communication. An empathy with the mission and ministry of the Church in Wales.

Desirable



Welsh language skills/the ability to communicate in Welsh or a commitment to learn Welsh. Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and environmentally responsible practices relevant to buildings and services. Experience of working for the charitable or education sectors. Experience of using SharePoint as a file repository system. Experience of working through democratically organised procedures e.g. committee and board systems.
