Job Description




Reporting to the Director of Site Reliability Engineering you will be managing a US and NI interdisciplinary team of Systems Engineers, Database Administrators and DevOps specialists who ensure the health and resiliency of ESO’s mission critical systems.

Site Reliability Engineers are champions of security and scalability at ESO and work collaboratively with our product engineering teams to continuously monitor and mature our cloud applications and services.

Our infrastructure runs predominately in Azure where IaaS, PaaS and Serverless technologies are utilized within the platform. Containers and orchestration solutions such as Kubernetes are emergent tools within our microservice architectures as well. You should be familiar with modern DevOps pipelines that promote zero-downtime deployment strategies and have a strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code recipes that prevent configuration drift between environments.

Technical aptitude is important but experience of developing high performing teams is the priority.

What You’ll Do – the day-to-day


  • Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to your team
  • Translate product and engineering goals into cloud infrastructure strategy
  • Establish and maintain SLOs and SLIs for critical systems
  • Identify and execute projects to automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration and maintenance tasks
  • Ensure that robust monitoring, alerting and observability solutions are in place to proactively diagnose and remediate system issues
  • Prioritise requests from engineering teams and cross-departmental escalation
  • Provide guidance on security best practices and disaster recovery / business continuity plans that improve MTTR/RTO/RPO metrics
  • Continuously improve in-house documentation and runbooks for production operations

Who You Are – some of the essentials things required to be successful in the role;


  • 3+ years’ experience managing a CloudOps/SRE/DevOps or similar team
  • 6+ years’ experience of Azure cloud platform, agile development methodologies (Scrum / Kanban) and networking, scripting and system administration fundamentals
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools and applicable use cases (Terraform, Ansible, etc.) and cloud security controls and governance principles

Who You Are – it’s desirable if you have experience of any or all of the following;


  • AWS cloud platform
  • managing both Windows and Linux platforms
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • Healthcare / Public Safety sectors
