Site Manager/Operations Manager Purpose of the Role
As Site Manager, you will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of all operations on site, including the sites picking, packing, goods-in and dispatch functions. You will ensure that all activities are carried out efficiently, safely and in line with company standards and customer expectations.
You will hold full responsibility for site labour control, including rota management, HR coordination and conducting staff 1:1s and performance reviews. You will also oversee the implementation and effective use of operational software systems, ensuring they support productivity, accuracy and data integrity across the site.
A key aspect of your role is maintaining and promoting health, safety and environmental compliance whilst fostering a strong safety culture and ensuring the site operates legally and responsibly.
Your leadership ensures that the site performs efficiently, cost-effectively and to a consistently high standard.
Main Responsibilities Operational Oversight
Manage daily warehouse activities including goods-in, picking, packing and dispatch operations.
Coordinate workloads and priorities to meet customer service and delivery commitments.
Oversee stock flow and ensure operational procedures are followed correctly.
Maintain high standards of organisation, productivity and accuracy across all departments.
identify and develop areas of the business where possible, to the benefit of the business.
Labour & Resource Management
Take full responsibility for labour control on site, ensuring staffing levels meet business needs while maintaining efficiency and budget control.
Prepare and manage staff rotas in line with forecasted demand and operational requirements.
Monitor attendance, performance and overtime to ensure effective workforce utilisation.
Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews and return-to-work interviews in accordance with company HR processes.
Work closely with HR on recruitment, training and employee relations matters.
Support the development and progression of team leaders and warehouse staff.
Quality & Accuracy
Ensure all orders are picked, packed and dispatched accurately, efficiently and on time.
Maintain robust checking and verification processes for outgoing goods.
Investigate and resolve errors, implementing corrective actions and improvements.
Keep complete and accurate records for audits, traceability and compliance purposes.
Engagement with key clients, keeping a strong relationship.
Organising and managing the dispatch and collection process with logistics partners and customers where needed
Provide resource support during operating periods for additional equipment and resupply in a timely and effective manner.
Health, Safety & Environment
Take full accountability for site health, safety, and environmental standards.
Ensure all activities comply with legislation, company policy and best practice.
Conduct and record regular risk assessments, safety inspections and briefings.
Promote a proactive safety culture and lead by example.
Ensure all incidents, near-misses and hazards are reported and investigated appropriately.
Systems & Operational Software
Lead the implementation, development and effective use of operational software systems (e.g. Warehouse Management Systems, time and attendance tools, production tracking).
Ensure systems are used consistently, accurately and efficiently across all departments.
Leadership & Team Development
Provide clear direction and daily leadership to supervisors and operational teams.
Foster a positive, collaborative and high-performance culture.
Communicate targets, expectations and feedback effectively.
Encourage professional growth, accountability, and ownership among all team members.
Continuous Improvement
Identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and cost control.
Lead or contribute to projects aimed at process optimisation, technology adoption and performance improvement.
Monitor site KPIs and drive actions to achieve or exceed operational goals.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Proven experience in managing a warehouse, fulfilment, or logistics operations (picking, packing, and dispatch).
Strong understanding of labour management, rota planning and HR processes.
Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
Solid understanding of health, safety and environmental compliance.
Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
