Role Summary



Our Launceston Sixth Pastoral Support Worker role will work closely with the Head of Launceston Sixth, the Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth, and the Senior Leadership Team to ensure educational excellence. As the Launceston Sixth Pastoral Support Worker (PSW), you will be instrumental in the success of our Year 12 and 13 students. You will provide essential encouragement, guidance, and support for their wellbeing and academic progress, empowering them to achieve exceptional outcomes and lead fulfi lling lives.

In this pivotal role, you will be crucial to the effective implementation of the Prepare, Learn, Attend, and Respond strategic plans. You will directly contribute to driving measurable improvements in sixth form attendance, academic outcomes, and recruitment.

The Launceston Sixth Pastoral Support Worker will collaborate closely with the Head of Launceston Sixth, the Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth, and the Senior Leadership Team to ensure the highest standards of educational excellence.

Key areas of responsibility - What will you be doing



Build Knowledge



Acquire in-depth knowledge of our student attendance, behavior, and academic monitoring systems, such as Bromcom, FLAGS and internal trackers. Comprehend the functionality of the UpLearn program and how to optimise its use for effective monitoring of academic commitment and achievement. Be dedicated to understanding effective independent study skills and how to best assist our students in embedding these, including the use of revision guides, study planners, and personalized support plans. Know each of our sixth form students individually, including their backgrounds, needs, and aspirations. Possess secure knowledge of Safeguarding protocols, including how to utilise CPOMS and when to escalate concerns to our Operational/ Strategic Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs). Understand the requirements and stages of the following processes: Recruitment (using programs such as Applicaa) Work Experience (Year 12) UCAS admissions 6-19 Bursaries Extended Project Qualifi cation (EPQ) Identify higher education providers and external agencies best suited to support us and our students with their post-sixth form next steps, e.g., higher education or careers. - Work closely with higher education providers to arrange trips or visits e.g. Exeter University, Marjon University, Plymouth University and Falmouth University. - Work closely with external agencies to ensure our students receive the best external support academically and pastorally e.g. Brook Clinic, Learn2Live and Uptree. Gain a strong understanding of how to best support students with transport to and from Launceston Sixth. Be familiar with our sixth form Greeting and P0 curricula, including our Character Curriculum. Participate in Trust CPD programs

Build Trust



Communicate and liaise effectively with students, parents/carers, our attendance team, sixth form leadership and senior leadership team Respond to and resolve parent complaints promptly Liaise with relevant staff/ departments across the school to ensure world class intervention and support for each student, including Safeguarding and SEND. Maintain confidentiality of information as needed

Prioritisation



Ensure the health and safety and Safeguarding of students and staff are your top priority. Support the Head of Launceston Sixth and Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth with sky-high attendance (on time), excellent behaviour, exceptional outcomes and high recruitment. Register and supervise our silent independent study space (Room 16) ensuring that students are working productively making every second count. Use FLAGS to report and monitor student behaviours. Provide regular updates for the Head of Launceston Sixth and the Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth, summarising key indicators of performance Support the Head of Launceston Sixth and the Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth with the exams process including mocks, warm-ups and external exams. Support the Head of Launceston Sixth and the Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth with recruitment into the sixth form, including from beyond Year 11 at the college. Support the Head of Launceston Sixth and the Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth with the UCAS admissions process including the collation and quality assurance of references and statements required for university applications. Prepare and lead on the sixth form calendar detailing weekly, half-termly, termly and annual events. Ensure the health, safety, and safeguarding of students and staff are paramount. Collaborate with the Head and Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth to achieve exemplary attendance, behaviour, outcomes, and recruitment. Manage and supervise the independent study space (Room 16), ensuring students maintain focused and productive work habits. Utilise FLAGS for comprehensive reporting and monitoring of student behaviour. Provide weekly summaries to the Head and Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth, detailing attendance, behaviour, and academic performance using Bromcom, FLAGS, UpLearn, and internal tracking systems. Assist the Head and Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth with all aspects of the examination process, including mocks, warm-ups, and external exams. Support the Head and Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth in sixth-form recruitment efforts, extending beyond current Year 11 students. Aid the Head and Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth with the UCAS admissions process, including the meticulous collation and quality assurance of references and personal statements for university applications. Liaise with our resources, marketing and PR teams to ensure we have world class exposure via Open Evenings/ Days, Induction Days, banners, merchandise, press, social media, prospectus etc. Support on Open Evenings, Parent Evenings, Induction Days and Results Days. Lead a program of rewards and celebration for our sixth form students to inspire, motivate and encourage them. Consistently model our values: Dream Big, Be Kind, and Take Responsibility. Work closely with the Senior Head Students, Head Students, and House Captains to foster and maintain strong links between Launceston Sixth Form and Launceston College. Provide support during Open Evenings, Parent Evenings, Induction Days, and Results Days. Follow Up



Consistent, rigorous and daily follow up to ensure sky-high attendance (on time), excellent behaviour, exceptional outcomes and high recruitment. Ensure all sixth form administration, including student records, is up to date. Meet with the Head of Launceston Sixth and the Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth daily to share observations from the day, to problem solve, to offer support, and to seek support. Meet with the Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth weekly for a 1:1 using APRA. Support the Head of Launceston Sixth and the Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth with: Parents' Evenings Reports Provide staff and students with effective Speedback to support all to be the best they can be, using COIN and RESET where appropriate. Follow-up with parents/ carers after a complaint has been resolved to identify if further support is needed. Daily rigorous follow-up to ensure exceptional attendance, behaviour, and outcomes, alongside high recruitment rates. Maintain accurate and current sixth form administration, including student records. Conduct daily meetings with the Head and Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth to share observations, problem-solve, and exchange support. Participate in a weekly 1:1 meeting with the Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth, utilizing APRA. Assist the Head and Deputy Head of Launceston Sixth with Parents' Evenings and student reports. Deliver effective "Speedback" to staff and students to foster optimal performance, applying COIN and RESET as appropriate. Follow up with parents/carers post-complaint resolution to ascertain if additional support is required.

Qualifications



GCSE C or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English A relevant qualification in pastoral support (desirable)

Experience



Excellent organisational, written, interpersonal, and communication skills. Proven record of improving attainment and/or progress. Demonstrates empathy, patience, resilience, determination, and positivity. Competent use of IT systems and equipment. Experience in analysing and interpreting data related to student achievement and/or attendance.
