Sixth Form Progress and Welfare Officer

Full-time, term time only

Location: Bacon's College, London, SE16 6AT

Salary:

32,409, FTE 37,560

Closing Date: Thursday 16 October at 4pm

The Role

The Progress and Welfare Officer for the Sixth Form will be a vital role at Bacon's College, supporting the Head of Sixth Form and the Senior Leadership Team in ensuring the highest standards of attendance, punctuality and engagement with our young people. You will work closely with a diverse range of students, forming important and rewarding relationships with students who are engaging, ambitious and aspirational. The role is specially designed to support the ambitions and aspirations of students, to monitor standards of behaviour and attendance, but also to develop important and professional partnerships with students as they complete their studies and look to make the next step in their journey, whether that be in the world of work or as they apply to university. You will play a key role in the support of our sixth formers as they develop into young adults, both personally and academically.

About you

Working with young people is both rewarding and demanding so a good sense of humour and resilience is essential. You will need to be positive and empathetic in your interactions with our students, be able to communicate clearly, accurately and calmly (in both spoken and written contexts), and be able to form positive and professional relationships with a diverse range of students and colleagues. The role will require you to be able to manage a busy and diverse workload, to be able to prioritise and ensure the completion of tasks to deadline, so being able to work well under pressure would be a definite advantage.

The ability to manage relationships appropriately is a key element of the role. You must be able to respect and work within the frameworks of keeping young people safe in education, recognising the primacy of safeguarding legislation, but also be able to demonstrate judgement in any interactions with students. It is important to be consistent, approachable and empathetic in your dealings with young people, in both personal and professional contexts. The Sixth Form offers a warm & strict approach where members of staff hold students to high standards with positive conversations, language and attitude.

You will need to be organised, be able to prioritise and be adaptable - things change and move quickly during the school day which makes the role exciting and stimulating but it also requires you to be on your toes and be able to respond to issues and needs whenever and wherever they may arise. This role will receive support from the rest of the Sixth Form Team and SLT where appropriate but independent decision making within the Sixth Form's procedures and expectations is a vital part of the role.

United Learning

United Learning schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, perks, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have up to eight INSET days per year and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call 'the best in everyone'.

Bacon's College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all who work at the school to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
