Overview:
This Fitting Skills Trainer role is required to manage and develop comprehensive and innovative teaching & learning experience in a variety of practical and theoretical skills within the current apprenticeship standards. You will also play a key role in developing the softer skills embedded within the apprenticeship programme. This includes providing regular, constructive feedback to learners and consistently recording the impact of their learning progress.
We are seeking a caring individual who is genuinely passionate about supporting apprentices through the early stages of their development. You should be enthusiastic about training young people and equally committed to the engineering and manufacturing industry. A solid understanding of recent developments in training is essential, and ideally, you will have experience delivering training within a workplace setting.

As a Skills Trainer, you will be a people-focused individual who represents and promotes our core values to young apprentices. You take pride in your work, act with integrity, share your perspectives, and create space for others to be heard.
In this role, you will be responsible for advising, teaching, guiding, and supporting apprentices to successfully achieve their qualifications on time and to a high standard. This role requires minimal supervision whilst noting that the successful candidate will work closely with the manufacturing management team, Head of Apprenticeships, and external training accrediting bodies to support all aspects of apprentice development.
You will:
Have effective communication demonstrated throughout the team encouraging high quality output
Demonstrate high quality input into knowledge transfer
Identify deficiencies whilst working along with Manufacturing Shop Supervisors and implementing improvement measures.
Demonstrate adherence to procedures (Risk assessment, SOP'S Health and safety standards) and quality standards - document, maintain, communicate and check understanding
Maintain effective relationships with third parties, internal departments/colleagues
Show commitment to team and own personal and professional development as a means to develop and maintain skills for future.
Develop a culture of continuous improvement, working with management team, supervisors, team leaders and shop personnel to improve quality and efficiency
Assist the Manufacturing Shop Supervisors in the identification, recommendation and justification of machines and equipment.
Work alongside the Head of Apprenticeships and Falkirk College monitoring apprentice development through their NC & HNC courses, ensuring all module & logs are documented correctly. Support additional learning needs and support through engineers.

Key Responsibilities will include:
Plan and manage the apprentice journey from Year 1 to Year 4 with a structured training plan, including departmental rotations, fitting requirements, and skill matrices for all requirements.
Maintain a clean, tidy, hazard-free work area, while promoting high work quality and positive attitudes.
Regularly review apprentice progress, ensuring their college work aligns with business needs and development goals.
Conduct assessments, appraisals, and workplace signoffs, documenting outcomes in training logs.
Mentor and support apprentices, providing guidance and ensuring timely, successful completion.
Assist the Apprentice Manager in developing the Company Training Plan and support apprentices with Core Functional Skills and during their time at college.
Participate in interviewing candidates for apprenticeship vacancies and represent the company at career events.
Handle sensitive issues with discretion, managing confidential matters appropriately.
Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, updating stakeholders and delivering presentations.
Remain calm under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain a high standard of organisation and attention to detail.
Promote safety and well-being of children, young people, and young adults at all times.
Requirements
Essential:
Time served and experienced engineer for the desired role.
Effective relationship skills with internal staff/external suppliers
Excellent knowledge of new and legacy equipment
Interpret engineering drawings/models
Excellent communication skills
Time Served - Engineering (Manufacturing)
Desirable:
Willing to undertake suitable safeguarding training for the role.
Undertake Train the trainer training.
Train the Trainer as minimum
Become member of ITOL, Institute of Training and Occupational Learning
Willing to undertake a workplace competence qualification within 12 months. (Assess Workplace Competence Using Direct and Indirect Methods (L&D9)
Introduction to Safeguarding Children Training Course (Level 1 Safeguarding)
The successful candidate must hold or be able to meet the appropriate Security Clearance as required.
