We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Slater to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in construction and building, with the ability to work with various materials and tools. This role requires an individual who is detail-oriented, capable of heavy lifting, and has a passion for creating high-quality structures. As a Slater, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that projects are completed to the highest standards.

Duties

Fabricate and install slates on roofs, ensuring proper alignment and secure fittings. Read and interpret schematics to understand project specifications and requirements. Use hand tools and power tools effectively for cutting, shaping, and installing materials. Perform masonry work as needed, including bricklaying and stonework. Conduct regular inspections of completed work to ensure quality and safety standards are met. Collaborate with other tradespeople, including carpenters and welders, to complete projects efficiently. Maintain a clean and organised work environment while adhering to health and safety regulations. Assist in heavy lifting tasks associated with transporting materials to job sites.

Experience

Proven experience as a Slater or in a similar role within the construction industry is preferred. Familiarity with carpentry techniques and the ability to plumb accurately is advantageous. Proficiency in using both hand tools and power tools safely and effectively. Experience with masonry work is beneficial but not essential. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues on-site. A commitment to high-quality workmanship and attention to detail is essential.
