An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Sleep Medicine service at University Hospital Tees
We are looking for an experienced Physiologist with significant experience in Sleep Medicine to support diagnostic analysis and reporting, training and development, and delivery of NIV clinics.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as an effective team member by taking responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the day to day care provided to patients.
This will include interpreting diagnostic data and providing a clinical report to support out patient assessments and inform treatment decisions
The post holder will develop and deliver sleep medicine education to support the development of the Sleep workforce
The post holder will provide expert advice to clinical colleagues and patients to ensure a high standard of care is delivered
The post holder will monitor patients under the care of the NIV service within the outpatient setting, reviewing their treatment, adjusting therapy as needed and monitoring its efficacy.
The post holder will produce reports for Sleep clinicians, produce outpatient clinic letters for NIV clinics and keep accurate records
The post holder will work with the clinical science, administrative and clinical teams to ensure that the national waiting times for diagnostics are met.

  • Understanding of specialist healthcare science activities acquired through training to master's degree or equivalent level of knowledge
  • Deep understanding of sleep disorders (Sleep Apnoea) and treatments (CPAP, NIV).

  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) examination/Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) or European Sleep Research Society/ESRS Examination of Certification in Sleep Medicine for Sleep Technologists - role specific

  • Significant experience in the performance, analysis and interpretation of basic (oximetry) through to highly complex sleep diagnostic tests (Polysomnography) in an adult setting
  • Significant experience in the performance and interpretation of a range of lung function tests including spirometry, respiratory mechanics assessments, field exercise testing, and arterial/capillary blood gases
