Reporting into Manufacturing Engineering, this role is for a Senior Product Support Engineer to work in our Glasgow factory.
You will be expected to be an experienced, enthusiastic and approachable laser expert with strong knowledge of mode-locked lasers, chirped pulse amplifiers or related laser technologies. Someone who can enhance successful introduction, transfer and ramping of new products in Production. Someone who can take the lead on solving complex laser issues in Production and can contribute to successful resolution of complex problems with lasers returned from or still in the field.
You will work in the Manufacturing Engineering Team and interface with Production, R&D, Quality and Service.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Training Production staff on build procedures, laser alignment techniques, best practices and tooling use.
Troubleshooting laser and amplifier performance issues including: electronics, power supply, cooling and tooling issues in Production.
Troubleshooting system issues on field returned units and care case lasers operating in the field.
Providing technical laser expertise and support to the Production team.
Providing technical laser expertise and support to the Service team.
Hands-on identification and resolution of complex laser system performance either independently or in collaboration with R&D as required for each issue.
Driving the Problem Solving and Root Cause Analysis process for Production issues. Creating and maintaining A3 reports for the Production, R&D, Quality teams.
Maintaining troubleshooting guides.
Generating corrective actions for yourself, Production, Manufacturing Engineering and R&D teams.
First Article Inspection and testing of proposed new parts before introduction to Production.
Occasional travel to other Coherent sites may be required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
PhD in Physics, photonics, Engineering, or in a related discipline, with
expertise in mode-locked lasers and amplifier systems.
Hands-on experience designing,testing, and troubleshooting advanced laser systems in a research, development or laboratory environment
A solid understanding of laser physics and the terminology used to characterise laser performance.
Strong, demonstrable practical problem-solving experience is required.

Preferred Additional Skills
Experience reading electronic circuit diagrams would be advantageous.

Working conditions are typical of a climate controlled and professional office environment, modern mechanical assembly area and Class 1K and 10K cleanrooms.
