Purpose of The Role
We're looking for an experienced and ambitious Social Media Manager to help lead Shortform video across our wider portfolio of podcast and network radio accounts, with a strong skew towards building and maintaining success on YouTube Shorts.
This role will also work across 16:9 podcast content across YouTube as a secondary aspect of the position.
Previous experience and understanding of working across YouTube as a platform will be integral.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
Visualised podcasting, and the BBC's presence on YouTube, is an exciting and rapidly developing area within the BBC and BBC Sounds.
This is an opportunity to help develop the strategy of how we distribute shortform video in innovative ways - both across YouTube Shorts, and also the BBC's own products and platforms (BBC iPlayer, BBC Sounds, BBC News, BBC Homepage).
This is also an exciting chance to work across the BBC's visualised podcasting presence on YouTube, with 2025's slate including: Game's Gone The Steve Bracknall Podcast, The Traitors Uncloaked, Miss Me?, The Tooney and Russo Show - with many more titles upcoming for YouTube in 2026.
You will work alongside our existing YouTube team, Commissioning teams, Production companies and often the presenters themselves to deliver full-length, fully visualised podcast episodes for YouTube to an industry-leading standard.
You'll be part of a collaborative, fast-paced, and innovative environment where best-practice is key, and be part of a friendly and experienced wider social media team working across the BBC.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Plan, curate and distribute shortform video content across the BBC's podcast and radio network YouTube Shorts portfolio, working with various internal teams.
  • Work with internal BBC teams to distribute our shortform video content across BBC News and BBC homepage, and work on ways to regularly report success, identify trends and opportunities.
  • Work alongside BBC internal teams to support innovative thinking around on-platform distribution of Shortform video - BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer.
  • Support across BBC Sounds' 16:9 full length podcast presence on YouTube. This role is likely to be assigned 1-2 titles to lead across.
  • Co-ordinating and managing delivery of content from internal and external suppliers. This will regularly involve clear, polite feedback and edit notes.
  • Designing and creating multiple thumbnail options for YouTube video uploads, and support others within the team to do this.
  • Work collaboratively across YouTube titling options, thumbnail text, metadata, descriptions and YouTube search optimisation.
  • Ensure all content complies with the BBC editorial guidelines, and support teams and suppliers in meeting these standards.
  • Regularly collaborate with other social teams, podcast commissioners, production companies, presenters and content discovery teams.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  • Previous experience and understanding of working across YouTube as a platform
  • A strong passion for and deep knowledge of the BBC's podcast and radio output. A regular consumer of YouTube content, especially in the podcast space.
  • Strong knowledge of social video platforms, and how young users discover radio and podcast content.
  • Clear communication and organisation skills. This role will entail speaking to, syndicating and sharing social media content across multiple different teams.
  • Confidence to clearly and concisely feedback to external suppliers of content, and manage important non-BBC relationships on a weekly basis.
  • Significant experience as a Social Media Manager or as a content lead in a creative industry.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite with strong video and image editing skills, especially for YouTube Shorts and YouTube 16:9 videos.
  • Design skills relevant to YouTube thumbnails, and ability to create multiple options at pace.
  • A strong understanding of visualised podcasting, thumbnail creation/ideation, metadata and SEO across YouTube and Google
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
