Location: Devon House, London, E1W 1LP - on campus 5 days a week

FTE: 38 hours a week

The Role

The Social Media Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing data-driven, highly creative social media strategies for Northeastern University\'s London campus. Content should be native to each platform and include audience-tailored campaigns that promote the brand in innovative and engaging ways. The Social Media Specialist is well-versed in the social media landscape; knows all existing and up-and-coming platforms, follows trends, and brings new ideas daily. This is a 24/7 role that requires both monitoring/analytics of social conversations; management of the main accounts across multiple platforms; and original content creation tailored to each platform. The person in this position will be on site 5 days a week.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a member of the talented award-winning social media team embedded in Northeastern University Boston\'s Communications department, the Social Media Specialist will increase engagement across all social platforms, and build/manage communities relevant to the London campus, while adhering to university-wide best-practices and policies that elevate the Northeastern brand globally. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and distribute content, creating and implementing engaging social media campaigns.
  • Research trends, channels and strategies and implement innovative findings and ideas.
  • Use analytics tools to create and deliver reports to inform the university of current social media coverage, reach and engagement.
  • Use social media tools like Sprinklr to optimize content streams to engage with target audiences and social influencers.
  • Create original imagery and video, including Reels and TikToks.
  • Write copy optimized for distribution across specific platforms.
Engaging with user-generated content as well as relevant influencers will be a key component of this role. As social media never sleeps, the Social Media Specialist must be responsive, fast, thoughtful and creative at a moment\'s notice.

Please be aware that after-hours work, including weekends and holidays, is routinely required. The position is based on Northeastern\'s London campus and is fully in person.

Education, Qualifications and training

Experience in content creation across all relevant social media platforms. (E)

Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and/or other creative tools, and experience leveraging them in a professional capacity. (E)

Experience

Expertise in social media publishing and reporting tools (Sprinklr preferred). (E)

Record of measurable improvements in engagement and audience development. (E)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong writing skills, with a deep understanding of the nuances of language. (E)

In-depth knowledge and understanding of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Reddit, TikTok, Discord and WhatsApp with experience engaging with audiences across those platforms. (E)

Excellent communications skills and attention to detail. (E)

Analytical mindset with the ability to use data to inform decisions. (E)

Self-starter with the ability to be proactive and set priorities in a fast-paced environment. (E)

Strong interpersonal skills to deal with individuals at various levels, and on potentially sensitive matters (E)

Excellent IT skills, including advanced level with Microsoft Office Suite (E)

Ability to work quickly, accurately and to deadlines, using a logical and methodical approach (E)

A team player, with the ability to work independently (E)
