Purpose of the Role:
Provide statutory social work services to children in care, ensuring their safety, well-being, and long-term outcomes. Conduct assessments, develop and review care plans, and collaborate with children, foster carers, families, and partner agencies to promote stability, permanency, and positive development.
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management & Safeguarding
Manage a caseload of children in care, ensuring statutory duties under the Children Act 1989/2004 are met.
Undertake assessments, care planning, and reviews, prioritising children's needs, wishes, and rights.
Monitor child placements to ensure safe, stable, and suitable care.
Care Planning & Permanency
Develop and implement Child in Care Plans with timely reviews.
Support permanency planning, including adoption and long-term fostering.
Ensure children's education, health, and development needs are fully addressed.
Court & Statutory Work
Prepare reports for Child Protection Conferences and court proceedings.
Present evidence professionally in court.
Complete all statutory documentation accurately and promptly.
Multi-Agency Collaboration
Work with health, education, police, and voluntary agencies.
Participate in multi-agency meetings and strategy discussions.
Provide guidance and challenge to partners when needed.
Professional Practice & Development
Maintain professional registration and conduct.
Stay updated with legislation and best practices.
Engage in supervision and reflective practice.
Person Specification:
Qualifications:
Recognised Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England.
Essential Experience:
Experience in statutory children's social work, ideally with children in care.
Knowledge of legislation regarding looked-after children and child protection.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
Exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities.
Ability to manage complex caseloads effectively.
Desirable:
Knowledge of Signs of Safety or similar frameworks.
Experience with adoption or fostering processes.
Car driver with access to a vehicle for work purposes.
