Overview
A unique opportunity has arisen to join Stoke-on-Trent City Council's Children in Care Team.
We are seeking experienced, aspirational, and dynamic qualified Social Workers who are passionate about supporting children and young people to achieve their permanency goals.
This role is ideal for those who have completed ASYE and have at least three years' post-qualified experience, with additional experience in supervisory, practice development, or contributing to the learning of others.
Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake full statutory responsibilities for children in care, ensuring plans are child-focused, aspirational, and outcome-driven.
  • Engage in direct work with children and young people to help them understand their journey and promote emotional wellbeing.
  • Work restoratively with families and carers, supporting positive relationships and maintaining meaningful family connections.
  • Coordinate care plans in collaboration with multi-agency partners, ensuring the voice of the child is central to all decision-making.
  • Support permanency planning, including pathways to Adoption and Special Guardianship.
  • Contribute to the professional development of colleagues and promote reflective practice within the team.
About the Service
You will be joining a dedicated and supportive management team, with access to team coordinators who assist with administrative duties-allowing you to focus on direct work with children.
The service promotes a restorative and relational approach, encouraging innovation, professional growth, and opportunities for progression.
Requirements
  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
  • ASYE completed and minimum of 3 years' post-qualified experience
  • Strong experience within Children in Care, Safeguarding, or Permanency settings
  • Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and deliver high-quality practice
