Job Responsibilities



Assess the need for social work services, including identifying risks and need for protection, determining intervention methods, and advising on appropriate social services and resources. Liaise and negotiate with professionals, statutory, and voluntary agencies to ensure the best possible service for clients. Manage and monitor an allocated workload within individual and group priorities, adhering to Council policies and statutory obligations. Maintain appropriate records of work undertaken and carry out required administrative procedures. Prepare for and attend supervision sessions and staff meetings, utilizing all available training and development opportunities. Contribute to the evaluation and development of services by sharing knowledge about theory, skills, and practice with other social services staff, professional groups, and interested bodies. Supervise students where appropriate. Undertake any work consistent with existing responsibilities at any location in Cheshire East, ensuring effective deployment of resources to meet service requirements.

Person Specifications



Qualifications

DipSW (postgraduate diploma) or equivalent (e.g., CQSW, CSS). Social Work Degree or equivalent.

Experience

Experience of working as a Progressed Social Worker in a Social Work setting. Experience of working with a variety of customer groups. Experience of working closely with Health professionals. Experience of supervising/mentoring trainee staff. Experience in statutory Social Work Service, including assessments at points of crisis or significant changes in service user's life. Experience working with vulnerable adults, including safeguarding and a range of difficulties (e.g., mental health, substance abuse, physical disability). Experience practicing in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act. Experience working with various professionals across organizations.

Technical, Specialist or Job-Related Knowledge

Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., NHS and Community Care Act, Nursing Home regulations, Carer Recognition Act). Working knowledge of personalisation and direct payments. Understanding of the roles of other professionals in care provision and knowledge of resources available to adults, including Third Sector and Voluntary Organizations.

Skills and Aptitudes

Good written and verbal communication skills. Developed conciliatory and negotiation skills. Self-motivating, with the ability to organize and prioritize workload. Positive attitude to change. Good team worker and willingness to support less experienced colleagues. Good IT skills, including the use of database systems to log caseload information, with the ability to keep accurate case records. Problem solver. Willingness and ability to travel throughout the borough.
