Job Responsibilities



Provide a comprehensive social work service in various settings within a framework of relevant legislation and procedures, supporting children, young people, families, and groups within the community. Manage a caseload according to qualifications and experience. Form, develop, and maintain professional relationships with children, young people, and their families through direct casework, supervision, shared activity, and counseling. Provide a service that meets primary needs, promotes development, and assists with behavioral difficulties and vulnerabilities. Identify and assess the risk of abuse, failure to protect, or harm to children. Advise senior managers regarding concerns related to children/young people at risk of abuse or harm. Contribute to and suggest ideas for good practice and its development, taking a lead in a special area of responsibility. Value, recognize, and respect the diversity, expertise, and experience of individuals, families, and carers, enabling them to make informed decisions and express their needs. Challenge discrimination, disadvantage, and other forms of inequality, injustice, and oppressive practice. Maximize financial and material resources available to service users and carers from all possible sources and ensure value for money care packages. Ensure service users and carers are aware of the Department's Complaints procedures. Manage child protection work. Understand the changing culture, health, and social needs of the locality to inform current and future practice and service provision. Establish good practice by example. Provide verbal and written information to aid care planning activities and provide evidence for assessment of need and care plan approaches. Implement designated actions from care plans. Gather and interpret information on agreed criteria related to the care of a client or implementation of procedures. Lead meetings to define care planning activities and evaluate evidence for assessment of need and care plan approaches. Set up mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating delegated actions from care plans. Derive and interpret information related to the care of a service user or implementation of procedures. Communicate effectively and in the best interests of the client in case conferences, planning meetings, discussions with clients/families, inter-agency personnel, team members, and in staff supervision. Provide evidence in court in relation to care if required. Work within established protocols, negotiating expectations/roles in liaison with others, e.g., in the key worker role or in multi-agency working. Represent the team as required on behalf of a service user, including representing individuals and the department/team in meetings/conferences. Attend child protection meetings. Challenge the judgments and decisions of others appropriately where there is evidence that the needs of those you are working with are not being met.

Person Specifications



Experience in providing social work services in various settings. Ability to manage a caseload effectively according to qualifications and experience. Strong interpersonal skills to form and maintain professional relationships with children, young people, and their families. Capability to identify and assess risks associated with child protection and welfare. Proactive in contributing to good practice development and taking lead responsibilities. Commitment to valuing diversity and challenging discrimination and inequality. Skill in maximizing resources and ensuring value for money in care packages. Knowledge of the Department's Complaints procedures and child protection work. Understanding of the changing cultural, health, and social needs of the community. Competence in care planning, implementation, and evaluation. Effective communication skills for various professional interactions and settings. Ability to represent the team and department in meetings and conferences. Willingness to attend and contribute to child protection meetings. Ability to challenge decisions constructively when necessary.
