Join Us in Transforming Adult Social Care in Southampton!

Are you ready to make a real difference in people's lives? At Southampton City Council, we are revolutionising Adult Social Care through our

Ambitious Futures Programme

. We share the

#SocialCareFuture Vision

, to enable us all to live in place we call home, with the people and things we love, in communities where we look out for each other, doing the things that matter to us.

We have recently enhanced our approach to ensure that we work collaboratively with our partners to enable residents to be healthy, independent, connected, and contributing members of society. Our goal is to ensure that our community and those accessing our services feel safe, supported, and connected, empowering each person to live independently with opportunities to utilise technology-enabled care and self-serve wherever possible.

Why Join Us?

We are looking for a passionate Social Worker to join us on our journey of improvement and change. You will embody a person-centred approach, promoting individual rights and empowering residents of Southampton experiencing difficulties with their mental health and/or substance misuse to maximise their potential. You will work in the Mental Wellbeing service team with like-minded supportive practitioners, who possess a range of experience and knowledge in applying our statutory duties under the relevant legal frameworks including the Care Act 2014. The work the team complete is varied and will often require deadlines to be met, effective time management will be a crucial skill. Daily work tasks will include completing assessments, support plans, reviews, safeguarding enquiries, mental capacity assessments and writing reports.

The team is based at the Civic centre in Southampton working alongside the wider directorate of adult social care including our dedicated AMHP team. Southampton City Council promotes flexible and agile working, and you will have the option to work from home as well as being office based at least three days a week.

We are keen to hear from experienced practitioners with at least 18 months years post-qualifying experience in adult mental health, including working in forensic social supervision. We will also consider applications from newly qualified social work practitioners who can evidence substantial experience of working in mental health and/or substance misuse.

This truly is an opportunity to bring your innovation, creativity and challenge to making positive changes that result in better quality of life for people. We want agile leadership at all levels to embed a positive learning culture, we really are proud to fail! Whether you are starting out in Social work, or an experienced practitioner, we have a range of opportunities across the teams.

About the post:

This social work post is part of our adult social care Mental Wellbeing Service, which has been established for the past year following the non-renewal of our section 75 NHS Act 2006 partnership agreement with Hampshire and IOW Healthcare NHS Foundation trust (formerly Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust). This is an exciting opportunity to be part of shaping the adult social care provision for the residents of Southampton who may be experiencing challenges with their mental health and/or substance misuse. It is a busy, thriving, dynamic and passionate team embracing the journey of change in ensuring we fulfil our statutory duties.
