Role Overview
We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Safety Critical product team. You will contribute directly to the development of Traject, our innovative detect and avoid solution to help operators fly safely, efficiently, and in compliance with evolving regulations.The ideal candidate will have at least three years of industry experience and be enthusiastic about contributing across the full product lifecycle - from early-stage planning to development, deployment, and operational support.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain software components across a range of languages for safety-critical and non-safety critical systems
Ensure adherence to software development standards, such as DO-178C
Implement and integrate software across multi-domain systems, ensuring consistent functionality across embedded, desktop, and cloud platforms
Write and maintain unit tests, integration tests, and system level tests
Participate in code reviews, static analysis, and dynamic analysis to ensure code quality and maintainability
Contribute to and maintain comprehensive documentation covering design, implementation, usage, and compliance as required
Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated testing, building, and deployment across embedded and cloud-based environments
Ensure robust versioning, traceability, and reproducibility of builds, including artefacts for certification or audit
Support deployment and operation of services in cloud environments, including the use of containerisation and Infrastructure as Code solutions
Skills and Experience
Essential
Proficiency in interpreted (such as Python) and compiled (such as Ada/C) languages, with demonstrated experience developing robust, maintainable software
Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, including modular design, version control, and code review workflows
Familiarity with object oriented design principals
Familiarity with automated testing at unit, integration, and system levels
Experience collaborating within cross-functional teams, translating system-level requirements into technical solutions
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders
Desirable
Experience in the some of the following languages: Python, Ada, SPARK Ada, Julia, Bash
Strong experience in embedded software development, including working with RTOS or bare-metal environments
Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins
Hands-on experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker, and deployment of software in production environments
Working knowledge of cloud platforms and basic infrastructure management
Experience applying the full systems engineering V-model, from concept through to verification and validation
Familiarity with emerging frameworks and regulatory standards for unmanned systems, such as SORA (Specific Operations Risk Assessment)
Solid understanding of software assurance standards, specifically DO-178C
Understanding of DO-254 and its application to hardware components in airborne systems
Experience working in safety-critical domains, particularly aviation or aerospace
Background or domain knowledge in aerospace systems and associated operational environments
Experience integrating systems that span multiple domains, including cloud-based infrastructure and embedded platforms
