: Software Engineer

The technical team runs our web hosting environment with over 300 full content management websites and over 2000 domains in total (including all the odd stuff, static sites, and sites that are just redirect rules). We also support the rest of the company by running internal services, including CRM and email, as well as development and test environments for the web development team. This is all based on the Conscious Cloud, a hybrid private/public cloud hosted over two data centres and Digital Ocean. We also assist with integration work and provide tools and guidance for reporting.

About you



You will have at least two years of commercial experience programming in a server-side web development world. Database skills and a good understanding of security issues and risks are also important. You will be interested in learning and be willing to take on new challenges in a flexible way.

Main Responsibilities



You will work with the other members of the team to develop API based services and support the hosting platform. You will also be doing some data analysis under the guidance of the more experienced team members, to support the decisions of the rest of the business.

Required Skills



Applicants must have the following experience:-



Minimum 2 years programming using Perl (preferably) or another C-derived language (e.g. Python, PHP, Javascript) Good database skills, preferably with PostgreSQL (but MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, etc, are ok). Good Linux command line skills or similar with a commercial Unix operating system

Desirable Skills



Experience with/of the following is desirable, but not required:-



Experience of data design, third normal form, and database tuning for performance Experience of developing with the Apache and nginx web servers Experience with X.509 and any part of the PKI certificate infrastructure Experience of source control systems, such as GitLab and Subversion Experience with Red Hat Package Manager (RPM) for distributing software

Salary & Benefits

Location



Hybrid working (being in the office at least for "Tech Team Thursdays") with an office base in Runway East, 1 Victoria Street, Redcliffe, Bristol, BS1 6AA, or another office in central Bristol should we ever move Initially more than one day in the office would be ideal Please note you must be UK resident with permission to remain and work in the UK

Hours of Work



Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week 9.00am to 5.30pm (unless otherwise agreed)
