We are seeking a highly capable

C++ Software Engineer

with broad, full-lifecycle experience in embedded software engineering to support the development of next-generation missile systems. The role sits within a mid-sized, multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for delivering on-board software for complex defence programmes.



The successful candidate will demonstrate technical leadership in the design, implementation, and delivery of safety-critical embedded software solutions, while also supporting and mentoring junior engineers. This is a high-impact opportunity to contribute to mission-critical defence systems in a collaborative engineering environment.


Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver embedded C++ software components in accordance with safety-critical standards and project requirements. Implement new and updated software requirements as part of component development activities. Produce high-quality unit tests and black-box tests to support software verification and validation. Perform static code analysis and address identified issues in line with MISRA and safety standards. Generate and maintain safety evidence, technical documentation, and design artefacts. Submit completed work products into configuration control systems for peer review. Review peer submissions and provide constructive, technically robust feedback. Collaborate with systems, hardware, and test engineering teams to ensure integrated solution delivery. Support the technical development and mentoring of junior engineers within the team. Contribute to continuous improvement of software processes, tools, and engineering practices.

Qualifications:
Degree (or equivalent experience) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Formal training or demonstrable experience in safety-critical or embedded software development environments

Essential skills:
Strong experience developing embedded software solutions using

C++

. Proven familiarity with

MISRA

standards and safety-critical software engineering practices. Good working knowledge of the complete software engineering lifecycle, from requirements through certification. Experience with model-based development using

UML

or tools such as

IBM Rhapsody

. Ability to produce clear technical documentation and safety evidence. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders.

Desired skills:
Experience using requirements management tools. Experience with software configuration management tools. Exposure to

Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, or Continuous Deployment (CI/CD)

practices. Experience working in

Agile

or hybrid development environments. Prior experience supporting or leading technical reviews and mentoring less experienced engineers.

Experience:
Demonstrable experience delivering complex embedded software solutions in defence, aerospace, or similarly regulated industries. Experience contributing to component-level software development, including requirements implementation, testing, static analysis, and safety artefact generation. Proven ability to lead technical implementation activities and support successful project delivery. Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams in a structured development environment.
