Software Engineer Currency Design

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for two Software Engineers to join our Currency Design team here at De La Rue. The design department of De La Rue provides an end-to-end process from concept design to prototype proof. We have specialists working on substrate, feature and concept design; origination; engraving and proofing. The design software and infrastructure is an integral part of the end-to-end design process and a key link to banknote, feature and substrate manufacturing site.


As a Software Engineer, led by the Senior Software Engineer, you will form part of a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary team who is responsible for maintaining and extending world-class design realisation and engraving tools used to create industry-leading banknote designs.


You will assist in the implementation of new features, address technical debt and support the Senior Engineers with re-architecting the product in a way that meets business needs. You will take a test-first approach to implementing features and use modern practices such as CI/CD to ensure high-quality deliverables.

Key Responsibilities



Design and develop quality, simple software using appropriate patterns Relentlessly focus on our users' needs, driving incremental delivery of software that has the highest value and address areas of risk in a timely manner Ensure your team and colleagues are updated regularly on your work through agile ceremonies and use of software development lifecycle tools (e.g. Azure DevOps, Jira). Suggest ways to improve yourself, the team, and the department through ways of working, processes, or the adoption of new technologies Proactively identify risks (i.e. security, technical debt, antipatterns) associated with the software and suggest methods for alleviation. Review code authored by colleagues, identify potential problems, and provide constructive feedback. Take responsibility and manage priorities to provide a swift response, support investigations, and create appropriate fixes during live incidents.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience



Good understanding and commercial experience using C++ and Perl and of writing and maintaining complex software A good understanding of how to work as part of an Agile team with proven ability to design and deliver software solutions that meet user needs and/or solve business problems Good technical skills with knowledge of solution design Working knowledge of how to develop within a continuous integration environment and provide constructive feedback through code reviews Proven ability to design and deliver software solutions that meet user needs and/or solve business problems
