Where you'll work:
Depending on the needs of your business area, we expect hub based people to be in the office at least once a week, and to go to OVO Connection events in-person.
You'll be assigned to the closest one of our three hub offices, Bristol, Glasgow, or London; unless your role requires field-based work. Each hub has accessible spaces to park your laptop, is designed to inspire people, help them connect and bring big ideas to life.

Across OVO we have around 350 Software Engineers all with varying backgrounds and levels of experience. One key thing that all of our engineers have in common is a desire to develop brilliant, industry redefining products as well as their own skills.
This role in a nutshell:
Home Services is the Insurance part of OVO Energy providing repairs and servicing to our policy holders. We have a modern platform which manages all aspects of our business with some integrations to the wider organisation. This means that the majority of our work is directly supporting new insurance products and the growth and success of this business with high levels of engagement from stakeholders.
Working within a squad, you'd join other engineers building amazing products for OVO Customers across our estate.
Your key outcomes will be:

• Features developed to a high standard and supported with appropriate tests.
• Modular, reusable code adhering to internal coding standards and best practices.
• Active and constructive participation in ceremonies (planning, stand-ups, retrospectives) and technical design discussions.
• Identification and prevention of technical debt, leading to simplified maintenance and faster future development.

Systems: AWS, GCP, .NET, Typescript, Git, Microservices, CircleCI, ArgoCD, K8s
You'll be a successful Software Engineer here at OVO if you have...

• Experience with modern Javascript technologies - Typescript, React, Next.js.
• Experience with .NET.
• Experience with cloud based platforms and technologies - AWS or GCP.
• Experience in SoA or microservice architecture design.
• An eye for designing solutions that are resilient and scalable.
• Strong attention to detail and a focus on security.
• A passion for technical excellence.
• Familiarity with Test Driven Development is beneficial.
• Great communication, amazing follow-through and are a driven and focused self-starter.
• Python or React Native experience would be a bonus.

We'll pay you between 50,000 and 72,000, depending on your specific skills and experience.
We keep our pay ranges broad on purpose to give us, and you, flexibility to match your experience to our zero carbon mission.
You'll be eligible for an on-target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.
