About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Software Engineer to complete and maintain a platform already at 90% frontend completion.
You will be responsible for leading backend development, setting up AWS infrastructure, completing and polishing frontend tasks, and implementing secure, scalable systems.
You will work directly with the founder, initially solo, with significant responsibility and autonomy.
Responsibilities
Architect, build, and maintain backend infrastructure (AWS and Cloudflare-based).
Design, build, and document efficient APIs and middleware.
Tidy, complete, and polish existing frontend where required.
Integrate secure authentication and payment systems (e.g., Stripe).
Implement robust database solutions.
Set up and manage DNS, CDN, and security/firewall layers using Cloudflare.
Ensure scalability, uptime, and GDPR-compliant data protection.
Forecast development costs and report effectively to the founder.
Suggest new technical solutions and improvements based on business needs.
Tech Stack Guidance
We are open to your technical recommendations, but strong knowledge in the following areas will be highly valued:
Backend Language: Node.js preferred (Python or Go also considered).
Cloud Platform: AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, API Gateway, IAM, CloudFront).
Frontend Stack: React and TailwindCSS.
Database: PostgreSQL or similar.
Cloudflare: DNS management, firewall (WAF), caching, CDN, security.
Requirements
Essential
:
Strong experience building and maintaining cloud infrastructure (AWS).
Hands-on experience using Cloudflare for DNS, security, and CDN management.
Ability to build and maintain middleware and secure APIs.
Solid frontend knowledge (enough to polish UI, complete small feature work, and integrate frontend-backend smoothly).
Financial awareness -- ability to forecast hosting and development costs.
Startup mentality: self-starter, problem-solver, highly autonomous.
Desirable
:
Experience with Stripe or other payment gateway integrations.
Previous startup or small business experience.
CI/CD pipeline setup (e.g., GitHub Actions).
Familiarity with GDPR compliance requirements.
