Software Engineering Chapter Lead

Job Description


Software is at the heart of Gamma. As a software engineering chapter lead, you will manage a cross-functional group of software engineers and test engineers, enabling every individual to realise their potential. Your direct reports will align with multiple delivery teams, with different goals and priorities; as such you must be a strong team player who values a collaborative approach, and can balance the needs of multiple stakeholders as well as the professional needs of your direct reports.

You will be responsible for building on a capability roadmap for the team, the personal development of the people in the team, as well as ensuring continuity plans are in place. A key aspect of this will be recruitment and expanding the team, with a focus on bringing in new skills, along with ensuring that existing talent is retained and developed.

You will work as part of a broader leadership team on the evolution of working practices and the development experience, as part of a continuous improvement roadmap. We are continuously looking to improve our processes and systems, and you will contribute and engage with this, and seize opportunities to learn and develop your own knowledge and skills along the way.

Key Capabilities

  • Imparting knowledge and teaching technical skills
  • Motivating and mentoring a team
  • Recruiting and onboarding skilled engineers into a growing team
  • Working within an agile methodology
  • Java (Java 8 minimum)
  • Object-oriented programming (OOP)
Experience in the following areas would be beneficial:
  • CI/CD and related tooling
  • SQL and NoSQL databases
  • AWS
  • Jira or a similar work-tracking tool
  • Containerisation (ideally Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Test tooling (such as Junit, Cucumber, Selenium)
  • Familiarity with service-oriented architecture (SOA) and microservices
