Overview of Role
The Engineering Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, delivery, and performance of the engineering teams at Care Control. This role ensures consistent, high-quality execution across front-end, backend/API, QA, and offshore contributors, establishing a reliable SDLC and improving engineering quality. As we modernise our engineering practices, the Engineering Manager will also support the safe and effective adoption of AI tools within the development workflow, ensuring they enhance productivity and quality. Working closely with the CTO and Product, the Engineering Manager enables predictable delivery while fostering a strong, disciplined engineering culture.
Role Responsibilities
Lead daily engineering operations including stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and team coordination.
Ensure predictable, high-quality delivery across front-end, backend/API, QA, and offshore engineers.
Implement and uphold engineering standards, coding practices, documentation, and secure SDLC principles.
Support the introduction and maturity of backend and QA capabilities, including automation.
Partner with the CTO and Product on planning, prioritisation, release preparation, and roadmap feasibility.
Own the release management process, ensuring clear quality gates, release readiness, and coordination with QA, Product, and Infrastructure.
Introduce and govern responsible use of AI tools to improve development efficiency, testing, documentation, and code quality.
Mentor engineers, support skill development, and drive a culture of continuous improvement.
Identify delivery risks or blockers and proactively drive resolution.
Improve collaboration between Engineering, Infrastructure, Product, and Customer Service teams.

Consistent on-time delivery within a stable release cadence.
Reduction in engineering defects and increased code review quality.
Effective adoption of AI-assisted development practices without creating quality or security risks.
Smooth integration of backend and QA functions into the SDLC.
Offshore output aligned to Care Control coding standards and delivery expectations.
A repeatable, well-governed SDLC embraced across the engineering team.
Experience and Qualifications
Experience managing engineering teams in SaaS or digital product environments.
Strong technical background (React, .NET Core, SQL familiarity preferred).
Experience working within Agile or hybrid Agile frameworks.
Exposure to modern tooling including AI-assisted development, automated testing, and CI/CD.
Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams (frontend, backend, QA, offshore).
Essential Skills
Effective leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
Strong communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to drive engineering discipline, quality, and consistent delivery.
Familiarity with AI-enhanced development workflows (e.g., code assistants, test generation, documentation automation).
Solid understanding of SDLC, release management, and modern engineering practices.
Preferable
Experience introducing QA or automation frameworks.
Familiarity with containerisation and Kubernetes (AKS preferred), including deployments, scaling, and basic cluster operation
Awareness of AI governance, prompt engineering fundamentals, and safe use of AI tools in regulated environments.
Experience working with offshore or distributed teams.
