And be the driving force to solve the technology challenges, partnering with 3rd party suppliers, improving engineering practices and supporting other engineers through coaching, and mentoring to help them develop.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering
Responsible for software engineering for your product in Technology.
Responsible for the design, and implementation of highly scalable, reliable, maintainable, and secure solutions.
Track, manage, and prioritise reduction of technical debt (in conjunction with Product)
Participate in code/design reviews and provide guidance to other team members.
Use your knowledge and experience to lead architectural discussions in the team, and contribute to the overall architecture.
Work closely with stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into engineering designs and solutions with the appropriate trade-offs.
Ensure that solutions being built are observable, secure and operable for the team to be able to manage system health and availability
Support teams in adopting and embedding good software engineering practices / standards and implementing metrics to monitor them.
Promote the benefits of good engineering practices with senior stakeholders across the organisation
Invest in automation across all aspects of the work we do to ensure practices and processes are repeatable, controlled and reliable.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Degree/Advanced degree and/or the equivalent combination of experience.
Strong track record and experience of managing engineering functions in the financial services sector.
Excellent knowledge of Finova / Apprivo 2
Good knowledge of building cloud-native systems.
Have managed teams across software, data, quality and platform engineering and have a very good understanding of these areas.
Minimum 8 years relevant experience.
Business
Understanding of the Financial Services sector with specific focus on Retail Banking (deposits/lending).
Understanding of compliance/regulatory requirements in the financial services sector.
Understanding of modern software development (SDLC, CI/CD) and software design and have experience in implementing on organisation level.
Experience managing audit and risk aligned to business goals.
Management experience of 3rd party suppliers.
Experience driving teams towards business goals balancing risk & cost appropriately.
Understanding of risk appetite and risk management frameworks in relation to Banking.
Leadership
Able to motivate engineers and promote a culture that encourages everyone to be the best version of themselves.
Motivated to create amazing engineering functions but are also pragmatic and delivery oriented. You should also be able to set this as an example for our engineering teams.
Understanding and experience introducing and improving Agile processes such as scrum and working cross-functionally, possibly in development pods/squads.
