Solar Development Project Manager

Job Description


Our client is one of the largest independent renewable energy companies in the UK with a desire to create affordable, zero carbon energy for all. They have over 40 years\' experience developing and building clean energy projects.

They are seeking a Solar Development Project Manager to assist in finding and delivering new sites within the UK up to Phase 2. This role will be working under the Head of Projects in the UK and will be an external facing role. You will be responsible for managing the progression of new sites in your regional portfolio.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Successfully engaging with landowners and land agents. Ability to win tenders for potential new Sites.
  • Assess site suitability based on project economics and balancing the portfolio.
  • Successfully negotiating new landowners and developing a strong relationship.
  • Managing internal and external resources as required to deliver projects to Phase 2, including planning, environmental, engineering, technical, environmental assessments grid studies as well as solicitors and land agents in relation to property.
  • Initiating and implementing site finding strategies using GIS techniques.
  • Responsible for formulating and managing New Sites development plans.
  • Communication of key issues & risks to the Head of Projects. Ensure the Head of Projects is updated on progress and involved in critical decisions that have a material impact on a project\'s value or programme.
  • Add value and reduce costs (DEVEX, CAPEX and OPEX) for projects ensuring project viability on a subsidy free basis post RO availability through efficient working, careful scoping, procurement and innovative engineering and design solutions
  • Budget responsibility - ensure project budgets are up to date, accurate, tracked, and managed. Ensure variances of >\xc2\xa310K are reconciled. Review all project budgets for annual budgets and quarterly re-forecasts.
  • Travel to visit sites and landowners is required throughout the specific region.
Key Requirements
  • Degree in an environmental, engineering, technical, planning or science based subject;
  • Experience and knowledge of land rates and project economics;
  • Understanding and experience of the Planning Policy on a Regional & National level;
  • Knowledge of key risks to the Solar development success;
  • Ability to negotiate, close and manage landowners and agents throughout the process.
